I saw Bad Company about that time (1987) supporting Deep Purple, but I don't recognise the song. Very 80s video. I don't know the other songs either, but the Pogues are always fun. I like that the Scorpions have 'metal' acoustic guitars.
These fires may be a sign of things to come. Climate change is having an impact.
You resisted having Smoke On The Water, Smoke Gets In Your Eyes or something by Nosmo King.
My family has an old steel guitar that used to belong to my grandpa. It needed some work so my sister and her husband had a guy fix it up. It's a cool instrument.
Nice. I have a friend who plays a steel guitar that is made of metal. They can be wood too as it's the steel is what you hold on the strings. I meant the shapes for the Scorpions.
I had heard of Nosmo King before and how his name was inspired by a sign in a club. It seems there are at least two artists of that name. One from the 30s was in 'blackface', so I opted not to post that.
Fun fact about the Pogues ... originally named Pogue Mahone ... an Anglicisation of the Irish phrase "póg mo thóin," meaning "kiss my arse". I love the Troggs, but yes 20 years apart they are lol
Again with the wildfires. Just like the polar vortex, this is now an annual event it seems like. So Japan is turning into a sauna for half the year, Canada is on fire every summer, and the polar jet stream weakens to let all of us freeze at least once a winter. Climate change is fun!
I was familiar with the Bad Company song, but neither of the others. Great stuff!
Yeah, it has been pretty horrible. We are finally getting some relief from the smoke, but only because the winds have shifted and now it is hotter than hell out again.
Its scary to consider just how interconnected we are, wildfires and other disaster don't care about borders, and their effects are sometimes inescapable. I am sorry to hear about your allergies, I sometimes get them too, and its such a buzzkill when you're sneezing and/or stuffed up, especially when you are trying to enjoy your summer. At least the sky looks pretty cool! Hopefully it clears up soon so you can fully enjoy your summer. Thanks for the tunes, I had never heard the Bad Company or Scorpions songs before, but found them both enjoyable, and I appreciated their distinctly different takes on the smoke theme haha
I'm glad you enjoyed it! Yeah, it is pretty crazy how connected everything is. In the grand scheme of things my allergies are probably pretty minor compared to the people who are losing their property and homes, I understand that, but it's still annoying!
Acoustica by The Scorpions was my favorite soft-music album for quite a while, I think when I was around 16.
That Bad Company song is quite neat, too. And The Pogues are always good for a good time. Reminds me of Flogging Molly, though I think that the latter is a little younger and was probably inspired by The Pogues.
I hope the wildfires get under control, soon, so you and your wife can get a rest from all the allergies, that does sound very unpleasant. Thanks for the songs!
Flogging Molly is some good stuff. I have one of their albums on vinyl. Yeah, that Bad Company song was a bit of a change for me because I am generally more used to their 70's style of rock.
I remember that winter hit hard up north, and now I see that summer is also harsh. Now, with the friends I have here on Hive, I have a real connection with people who live in countries where there are seasons, and I see that it's not as easy as I thought, and here I am complaining about this eternal tropical climate 😅
I hope things improve soon, and in the meantime, I'll keep listening to more Scorpions music, my favorite band among those you shared today...
Here in Minnesota, we just ended a six-day air quality alert, the longest in state history. It’s now in the moderate range, down from unhealthy. Saw a news article on Friday saying that Minneapolis then had the second-worst air quality in the world among major cities, behind Kinshasa.
It's ridiculous. I mean I know you can't really blame anyone, but it's just disappointing. As soon as that cool air starts giving us some relief from the north it brings the smoke with it.
That's a huge chunk of wild fires up there. That's crazy.
I have a friend who knows people that have a house in California where the wildfires hit. Their house was not damaged but they aren't going to be able to live there for a couple years because of all the damage around them. That is insane for me to think about.
Yeah, that is pretty crazy to think about. I can't even imagine that kind of devastation. We have had some big fires a bit north of where I live and you can see the wide stretches where there used to be forests, but it still is hard to wrap your head around.

It's hard enough dealing with extreme heat, but when the one moment of relief is taken away by wildfire smoke? That’s just unfair. I really admire how you still found a way to tie it into music – and such fitting tracks too. That red-tinted sun photo looked surreal, almost like something out of a movie scene. Hoping you and @mrsbozz get some clean air and real rest soon.
While you dealing with smoke, we are having a lot of rain. And it didn't rain then humid weather makes rhe skin sticky. But soon rain brings a good amount of respite. This hmyear we didn't had much hot weather and expecting a chilled winter, though no snow here. ....
That smoke certainly isn't good for your health, so a good thing to stay indoors. It does make for some really pretty sunsets though!
Great songs you picked out there. Bad Company and the Scorpions are awesome. I hadn't heard that song by the Scorpions either, but they always deliver! The Pogues I'm not all that familiar with, good song as well though. I guess they weren't as popular here and back in the UK.
Great TTT, and I hope that smoke blows somewhere else soon.
Thanks, I hope so too about the smoke, the only problem is if the wind shift we will probably lose the cool temperatures. It's been a vicious cycle this summer! I really liked the Bad Company song too. Scorpions are always on point!

I think I have shared those songs before, so I was trying to find ones that I wouldn't be repeating!

Probably a smart move!

That is a fun fact! Somehow it doesn't shock me either!
hehe

We could nominally conduct some reprisal bombing raids on our neighbors to the north for the smoke, but that might exacerbate the problem.

I'm glad you liked it. The Scorpions are really great. I love having four seasons. I think I would die if it was hot and humid all the time.
I thought you might add 'Smoke on the Water', but everyone knows that and I see little water in this lot of images.
That one was too obvious and I think I have used it before. Also, no water in the post, those are farm fields!

Thanks! I am hoping so too! Yes, the haze has been pretty creepy and unsettling. We need some fresh air and cool breezes!

We've gotten hardly any rain here this year. I won't be surprised if they start declaring a drought and even more fires spring up.
Global warming what else...in many parts the incident of cloud burst simply made villages to vanish...
Crazy!
Controlling them is really very important otherwise it would harm really well.!! And actually it is but it can be extended even more...!
Know several people up there, can only imagine how they're handling it. Surprised I didn't see this one!
Or this one:
I love that second song and I was going to throw it in here, but I think I already used it in a past post given how much I like it.
"Black Smoke Rising" by Greta Van Fleet could also work, since you're not adverse to a bit of rock.
For sure! but I think I already covered them when they first started getting big since they are from just a couple towns away.
Definitely a favorite of mine, they still have a bit of that Zeppelin-esque sound.
Yes, I kind of put them somewhere between Zeppelin and Rush.
