In another life, I might have been a developer. Actually, in another life, I probably would have been a music superstar, or a jazz musician... It's not that I couldn't have been a developer in this life, I just lack the skills to actually be one. Yes, I took some coding classes in university, but I was never really that great at it even though I kind of enjoyed it.
I think my biggest problem is the fact that I usually can't think of something I want to accomplish that would require the skills of a developer. It's interesting how there is such a creative side to something that most people would normally think is strictly technical. I can't tell you the number of times I have heard someone talk about a project that they really want to love, but the GUI or front end just sucks.
We've seen that a lot on the crypto side of things where companies seem to just throw together a site as an afterthought versus actually putting the time and skill into it. Either that, or they have a beautiful website, but no actual product for their cryptocurrency. How many times have we all seen that?
The other day, as I was starting to create the different piece of The Pub Community here on HIVE, I actually had one of those elusive ideas that if I were a programmer, I might be able to turn into something really cool. Sadly, I don't have the skills. Sure, I could try to use AI to cobble something together, but that kind of feels like cheating to me.
Plus, there are tons of great developers on HIVE already, so hopefully one of them sees this and maybe decides to run with the idea. I know, I know, just get on with it right? Well here you go...
Wouldn't it be cool if there were a turnkey solution for creating new communities on HIVE.
Yes, I know it isn't that hard to create an actual community, but if you want to make that community just a little better, that's where things get into the weeds.
I'm thinking something more than just the quick create a new community button on the PeakD page. Here's the flow I am imagining.
Step 1 - You go to a specific website
Step 1.5 - You enter the name of the community you want and the system checks to make sure it isn't already taken or there isn't something similar that you didn't know about.
Step 2 - You fill in the name of the community and some of the other information that the profile page asks for. The form would take all of that information and publish it into the corresponding areas of the community page on HIVE. Obviously, there would be clear descriptions of what you are entering and why it is necessary.
Step 3 - At this point, you can choose to simply be done with the service. Maybe have some kind of confirmation button where you agree to pay 10 HIVE or some arbitrary amount for using the service. I know this is stuff that can easily be done on the fly, but having it an easier to enter format might be beneficial for some people.
Step 4 - This is where the real power of my idea comes in to play. Instead of choosing to complete the task, you can also choose to continue to the next section where you create a token and front end for your community.
Step 5 - In this step the end user would enter the name they want for the token and the ticker symbol. The system can then check to see if that ticker is available or already taken.
Step 6 - The user enters the required information for max supply and all of that (again with crypto for dummies style prompts so people know exactly what they are doing).
Step 7 - The users chooses whether they want to immediately mint the token or wait until a future time. This at least creates the token and reserves the ticker for them, but doesn't necessarily put it out on the market yet.
Step 8 - The user picks the style and theme for their front end. I would imagine this could all be done with CSS and some fairly easy coding (however, still beyond my abilities).
Step 9 - The user gets to finalize everything and agree to pay a certain amount of HIVE or HBD to complete the steps. This should include the necessary funds to swap into BEE and create the token on HIVE-Engine, as well as whatever fee the person who develops this tool wants to collect. They put in the work after all to create the tool, they should be compensated.
Maybe it feels simpler in my head than it actually is, but I feel like something like this could be pretty easily achieved by a skilled individual. I also think it could make communities more accessible to a lot of people on HIVE. Some might argue we already have enough useless second layer tokens. While I don't necessarily disagree with that, I do think there are probably a number of people who would like to have a community and a token, but don't have the skills to make it happen. Either that, or they don't have a developer in their pocket to get it done.
Having a turnkey solution like this that is basically dummy proof might push us in the direction of getting more users on the chain.

However, there might be someone who decides to pick up the idea and run with it. In that case, your critique might help them with their own development.
