We often want to take planes, trains and travel far to discover the world, but sometimes we forget that many beauties are located very close to us.
I reflected on this fact yesterday, as I went to a friend's house in a small town just half an hour from where I live: Faenza, in the province of Ravenna and in the Emilia-Romagna region, in northern Italy.
Having never been there before, I took the opportunity to get to know it a little by going to the main historical places that characterize the town and I thought I'd share some photos with you.
Bucci Park
This park is one of the first attractions that you encounter going towards the small but pretty historic center of the city of Faenza.
It is a municipal park of considerable size, about 8 hectares, which has a pond at its center.
It was born in the 70s and is located above what was the main parade ground. The name derives from the Bucci family, well known in the Faenza area because it is one of the main pillars of the local industry.
The thing that struck me most about this park is the extreme biodiversity. In fact, we can find both plants that are present in all the cities of Emilia-Romagna, and exotic and rare plants!
The care of the municipal administration is noteworthy because there is not a single twig out of place: the grass is cut to size for children and there are numerous benches, tables for picnics and even a large playground!
Even the fountains of water are numerous and in fact I have seen many sportsmen who ran in the appropriate paths and then stopped every now and then to quench their thirst.
Finally, the Bucci Park is characterized by a splendid local fauna. I was lucky enough to meet numerous rabbits which, given the season, were followed by their little rabbits, turkeys, geese and peacocks.
During the walk, I also witnessed a beautiful wheel of a colored peacock.
Palazzo Milzetti - National Museum of the Neoclassical Age in Romagna
The building I'm about to tell you about is located in one of the many small alleys of Faenza: it's almost impossible to find it by chance! Once you enter you are transported to a parallel reality, it no longer seems to be in the 21st century, but you are catapulted into the neoclassical era!
It is possible to visit different rooms of Palazzo Milzetti: the kitchens, the bathrooms, the library and the living rooms. Everything is placed in two floors and on the ground floor there is also a lovely garden.
The thing that fascinated me most about this building is the richness of the details and the frescoes. I never expected such a beauty!
In addition, the ticket to visit it is decidedly cheap and an audio guide is included that is made really well, in a complete way, explaining the history of the families who lived there and going up to the present day with all the changes of the structure.
After the visit to the palace, we had an aperitif with piadina (a typical bread from Romagna) and spritz (a typical Italian drink)!
International Museum of Ceramics
My visit to Faenza ends with the flagship of the city: the International Ceramics Museum. In fact, it is the largest collection of ceramic works in Italy and one of the most important in the world!
The museum houses about 60,000 ceramics.
The thing that struck me most is the vastness of the artworks present, from prehistory to the present day. As for Italy, we find an entire floor dedicated to ceramics divided by Region, from the splendid vases of Sicily representing lemons and other citrus fruits, to the beautiful ceramic dishes of Veneto with vineyards and woods. A marvel for the eyes!
In addition, the Museum is also one of the main restoration centers of Emilia-Romagna. In fact, just as we were visiting the different rooms, some students were grappling with the restoration of a very precious Etruscan vase.
Faenza is a small but very pretty city and I would recommend it to both art and history enthusiasts and nature enthusiasts.
The more I travel to my country, the more I realize how beautiful and full of unexplored treasures Italy is! Do you agree?

Ciao a tutti e buona domenica,
Spesso desideriamo prendere aerei, treni e viaggiare lontano per scoprire il mondo, ma a volte dimentichiamo che molte bellezze si trovano proprio dietro casa.
Ho riflettuto su questo fatto ieri, in quanto mi sono recata a casa di amici in una piccola città a solo mezz’ora da dove abito: Faenza, in provincia di Ravenna e nella regione Emilia-Romagna, nel nord Italia.
Non essendoci mai stata prima, ho approfittato dell’occasione per conoscerla un po’ passando nei luoghi storici principali che la caratterizzano e ho pensato di condividere qualche foto con voi.
Parco Bucci
Questo Parco è una delle prime attrazioni che si incontrano andando verso il piccolo ma grazioso centro storico della città di Faenza.
Si tratta di un parco comunale di notevoli dimensioni, circa 8 ettari, il quale presenta al suo centro un laghetto.
Esso è nato negli anni ’70 ed è localizzato al di sopra di quella che era la principale piazza d’armi. Il nome deriva dalla famiglia Bucci, molto nota nel territorio faentino perché una delle principali colonne portanti dell’industria locale.
La cosa che mi ha colpito di più di questo parco è l’estrema biodiversità. Infatti, possiamo trovare sia piante che sono presenti in tutte le città dell’Emilia-Romagna, sia piante esotiche e rare!
La cura dell’amministrazione comunale è degna di nota perché non vi è un singolo rametto fuori posto: l’erba è tagliata a misura di bambino e troviamo numerosissime panchine, tavoli per fare pic-nic e anche un ampio parco giochi!
Persino le fontanelle dell’acqua sono numerose e infatti ho visto moltissimi sportivi che correvano negli appositi sentieri e poi fermarsi ogni tanto a dissetarsi.
Infine, il Parco Bucci è caratterizzato da una splendida fauna locale. Ho avuto la fortuna di incontrare numerosi conigli che, data la stagione, erano seguiti dai loro piccoli coniglietti, tacchini, oche e pavoni.
Durante la passeggiata, ho anche assistito a una bellissima ruota di un pavone colorato.
Palazzo Milzetti – Museo Nazionale dell’Età Neoclassica in Romagna
Il palazzo di cui sto per parlarvi si trova in uno dei numerosi piccoli vicoli di Faenza: è quasi impossibile trovarlo casualmente! Una volta entrati si è trasportati in una realtà parallela, non sembra più di essere nel XXI secolo, ma si è catapultati nell’era neoclassica!
È possibile visitare diverse stanze del Palazzo Milzetti: le cucine, i bagni, la biblioteca e i salotti. Il tutto è posto in due piani e al piano terra c’è anche un grazioso giardino.
La cosa che mi ha più affascinato di questo palazzo è la ricchezza dei dettagli e degli affreschi. Non mi sarei mai aspettata una tale bellezza!
Inoltre, il biglietto per visitarlo è decisamente economico ed è compresa un’audioguida che è realizzata davvero bene, in modo completo, spiegando dalla storia delle famiglie che ci hanno vissuto e arrivando fino ai giorni nostri con tutti i cambiamenti a cui è andata incontro la struttura.
Terminata la visita al palazzo, abbiamo fatto un aperitivo con piadina e spritz!
Museo Internazionale delle Ceramiche
La mia visita a Faenza si conclude con il fiore all’occhiello della città: il Museo Internazionale delle Ceramiche. Infatti, esso è la più grande raccolta di opere in ceramica d’Italia e uno dei più importanti del mondo!
Pensate che il museo ospita circa 60.000 ceramiche.
La cosa che mi ha colpito di più è la vastità delle opere presenti, dalla preistoria fino ai giorni nostri. Per quanto riguarda l’Italia, troviamo un intero piano dedicato alle ceramiche divise per Regione, dagli splendidi vasi della Sicilia rappresentanti limoni e altri agrumi, ai bellissimi piatti del Veneto con vigneti e boschi. Una meraviglia per gli occhi!
Inoltre, il Museo è anche uno dei principali poli di restauro dell’Emilia-Romagna. Infatti, proprio mentre noi stavamo visitando le diverse sale, alcuni studenti erano alle prese con il restauro di un preziosissimo vaso dell’età Etrusca.
Faenza è una città piccola ma molto carina e mi sento di consigliarla sia agli appassionati di arte e storia, sia agli appassionati della natura.
Più viaggio nel mio Paese, più mi rendo conto di quanto l’Italia sia bellissima e ricca di tesori inesplorati! Siete d’accordo?
