Very important is at the beginning of the season to create new swarms to replace the families lost in winter, or to sell to start work, before the sale of honey.
To create new swarms at the beginning of the season it is very important to have powerful blooms in their vicinity, in this way the bees will be able to return in strength after the split.
Why are we talking about split?
As you can see from the photos, some frames with fresh hatching were extracted from the strongest families. Which will then be used to form the new swarms.
We must try to create new small swarms, but that they are balanced with regard to the stocks of honey, and the brood that will have to be born.
Let us not forget that in addition, the queen will not be present in the new swarms, and it will be up to the family to raise a new one.
This period that new swarms need to create a new queen is very important and delicate, because if we go to disturb the young family at such a delicate time, there is a risk that the queen will not be born, or that the bees lose interest in raising one. The time taken by the queen to be born is 16 days.
