This is a mashup of two songs. This band LOVES to start out each performance with this combo,
Cantalope Island and Water Melon Man
The origianl songs were recorded by Herbie Hancock.
I've posted this video a lot. This might be my favorite rendidtion of it.

Good performance mate!
Thank you very much!
These songs bring back memories for me. I know both these jams from a buddy of mine who got me really into latin jazz music. David Torres, who before his passing was a piano player and composer for Poncho Sanchez who played and recorded albums with both these songs, was also my buddies music teacher. And so whenever Poncho was in town we got free front row tickets and I'd even get to go backstage and meet all the guys in the band. It was so cool. Unfortunately after Daves passing my buddy started having a drug problem and had to go to long term rehab and after that he just kinda disappeared and now it's been years since I've seen or heard from him. I miss him, he was a really talented musician and he taught me A LOT. We would have the funnest jam sessions, switching up instruments each song. He was always much better than me, but he trained me well enough that I could always keep up. I really hope someday I'll get to see him again.
Wow dude, that’s a heavy acquaintance. I love poncho sanchez music and people he surround himself with are always great.
That’s awesome. You had that concert privilege.
Sounds like a healthy influence. I’m sure that’s why you had that cool openmic guitar series for a while.
