RE: Spring is Vibrant at the Cold Spring Harbor Fish Hatchery

Really well photographed, despite your statement that many photos you took weren't usable. I have great confidence in your identifications in this post, save that of the White Harrier. The pendant plumage on the wings and inability to well discern the features at that distance makes identification uncertain. Pendant plumage on the wings strongly suggests a Snowy Egret, which is common here, but I have no information regarding it's range including New York. I assume it does, however.

I very much enjoyed your well written post.

Thanks!

Thank you very much, @valued-customer!

I think you're right about the egret. My son suggested that yesterday. The beak threw me off...I thought it was short. But now I look closely and see that it is long.

Yes, we have the egrets around here, for sure. Thanks for the I.D., once again.

Yes, I was going to see it looks like an egret as well. They have very long necks, but they bunch them up when they sit in the trees. It could be a snowy egret or cattle egret.

I love your pictures! The turtles are adorable and the bullfrog is an absolute gem. What a great moment you captured.

It looks like you had a great outing. I can see why you returned for another visit!

Hello @jayna,

Thank you for coming! It's so late for you :)

but they bunch them up when they sit in the trees

That's exactly what my son said...the bird is tucking his neck in.

I did have fun, and my husband liked the place. Hurt his leg, but he was glad he went.

I had a lot of fun taking the pictures, so I'm glad they are appealing. Thank you!.
