"A Mountain Dawn in Carinthia"

Hello Friends, I hope all of you had some wonderful Christmas holidays! With a bit of a lull 'til the new year's festivities, I thought I would show you a very colorful watercolor painting of a mountain dawn. My painting is based on a gorgeous photo of our friend Johann Piber, a photographer who lives in Carinthia/Austria and seems to produce a never ending stream of photos with phantastic mountain moods, which he publishes regularly here on Hive and on Twitter.
Although I took some artistic license in the painting, and wet-in-wet watercolors very much tend to do their own thing, these kinds of outlandish colors actually do occur in the mountains, as you can see in the original tweet. Apparently it's a matter of getting the timing right, as these kinds of colorful displays only appear in the sky for a short period. A lot of effort, I would imagine, but luckily you don't need to go through that. You only need to follow @johannpiber for a new surprise vista every few hours...
Hallo Freunde, ich hoffe, ihr hattet alle schöne Weihnachtsfeiertage! Mit einer kleinen Pause bis zu den Feierlichkeiten im neuen Jahr, dachte ich, ich zeige euch ein sehr farbenfrohes Aquarell einer Bergdämmerung. Mein Bild basiert auf einem wunderschönen Foto unseres Freundes Johann Piber, einem Fotografen, der in Kärnten lebt und einen scheinbar nicht enden wollenden Strom an Fotos mit fantastischen Bergstimmungen produziert, die er regelmäßig hier auf Hive und auf Twitter veröffentlicht.
Obwohl ich mir bei dem Bild einige künstlerische Freiheiten genommen habe und Nass-in-Nass-Aquarelle sehr dazu neigen, ihr eigenes Ding zu machen, kommen diese Art von ausgefallenen Farben in den Bergen tatsächlich vor, wie man im Original-Tweet sehen kann. Offenbar kommt es auf das richtige Timing an, denn diese Art von Farbspielen erscheint nur für kurze Zeit am Himmel. Ganz schön anstrengend stelle ich mir das vor, aber zum Glück müsst ihr euch das nicht antun. Ihr braucht nur @johannpiber zu folgen, um alle paar Stunden eine neuen, überraschenden Bildeindruck zu sehen...

Was mir schon oft bei Deinen Postings aufgefallen ist, sie erscheinen immer mehrfach. Ich vermute das ist keine Absicht von Dir (?). Dieses Posting hier erscheint bei mir in der Übersicht insgesamt 7x. Hier mal ein Screenshot, das erste und letzte ist etwas abgeschnitten:

Danke für die Info. Doch, das ist volle Absicht. Ich poste in einer Gruppe, bei meinen italienischen Kunstliebhabern mit Kopie in meinem Blog. Dann crossposte ich mehrfach in alle Gruppen, die was mit bildender Kunst zu tun haben (OnChainArt, Sketchbook) und Gruppen, die auf Kuratieren spezialisiert sind (Curie, Curangel und natürlich D_A_CH). Es erhöht die Reichweite und weil es in Einklang mit den jeweiligen Gruppenregeln steht, ist das auch kein Spam. Dafür ist Crossposting ja gedacht; es muss halt thematisch zu den Gruppen passen.
Wenn Du mir folgst, siehst Du in deinem Follow-Feed genau einen Eintrag, nämlich meinen Blog-Post. Wenn Du in Gruppen rumstöberst, z.B. D-A-CH, siehst Du auch nur einen Eintrag, nämlich den Crosspost. Wenn Du danach andere Gruppen besuchst, kann es schon sein, dass Du mich wiederholt siehst, aber immer nur einmal in jeder Gruppe. Es könnte z.B. sein, dass Du zuerst D-A-CH wegen der deutschen Posts besuchst und anschließend als Liebhaber der Malerei bei OnChainArt vorbeischaust. Dann stolperst Du zweimal über mich.
Wenn Du natürlich meinen Blog von Hand aufrufst und dann statt "Blog" den "Posts"-Tab aufmachst, siehst Du alle meine Posts einschließlich Crossposts in einer Liste. Gedacht ist die Funktion wohl für Leute mit vielfältigen Interessen, die nicht selber Bloggen, sondern nur in Gruppen aktiv sind.
Ehrlich gesagt, ich bin auch nicht glücklich darüber. Mir gefiel es früher besser, ohne Tribes (mit Dutzenden eigenen Coins) und ohne Gruppen. Es gab jeweils einen Blogeintrag, und wenn man die Beiträge i.d.R. mochte, folgte man dem Blogger eben. Und mit den Tags konnte man Beiträge thematisch sortieren, wie z.B. #deutsch. Es war einfacher, logischer, und hatte nicht soviele Regeln zu beachten.
Ich wünsch' Dir was, vor allem einen guten Rutsch!

Very nice Folker, I like this unusual and powerful way of using watercolors, almost fluorescent. You make me want to try, a sparkling hug.
Thank you Armando. Those are no unusual watercolors, they're just my Schmincke Horadam. I do, however, add a tiny bit of honey in my mixes, which makes them flow nicer, have slightly more intensity, and a very subtle sheen after drying.
The flipside of this is, if the paint is too concentrated (like cream), it may dry slightly sticky and must be sprayed with a fixative to get rid of the stickyness. So the honey works best on thinner washes. Of course, I have no idea whether this is archival or not, but since I'm not selling my art I'm free to experiment.
Also, they are much harder to photograph with hardly any natural light coming in through the windows these winter days. The colors in the photos are a touch overcranked, and this can't be fixed in software without losing dynamic range in the photo, making the shadow areas look like dirty greyisch blobs. So I rather live with the somewhat beefier light colors.
In my painting, the oblique cloud strips just above the mountain range are a symphony of pastel pinks, pale yellows and oranges, and even pastel purples. NONE of that shows in the photos; it just looks like ugly streaks!
It is very strange, and I have not found a solution for this. I even tried HDR photography, but that makes it worse, with 10 times the effort. I think it's due to the modern LED lighting I have over my work area. It's fine on the eyes, but it seems to mess with the camera sensor.
What I'm saying is, my painting is very colorful on purpose, but in reality not quite so in your face and much closer to the colors in the reference photo.

I love it when you see skies like that. I am sure that they are spectacular in the mountains. I don't think that I've ever seen a sunset from on a high mountain. That would be something.
