Oh my word! I usually take the micky out of the terms they use on the tele, they make be chuckle, but the weather couldn't have been any worse yesterday.. It's been chucking down pretty much all day yesterday and there were two open mic options for the evening, one would have meant walking to a pub near by with a guitar on your back and the other in Hitchin sitting outside under some gazebo type thing.. No thanks! 😄

Instead I walked on the treadmill and watched a film..

The morning walk was fine though, grey but dry and mild again. I meant to go to the park but it was very busy with school kids of all ages getting to school so we took a different route along some roads I've not walked before. Mia actually chose the way and sometimes I let her.

On our walk back we passed this pub; another one bites the dust!!
I had heard about it actually as one of our fellow musicians had a gig booked there that got cancelled. Steve will know them: Lanterne Rouge.
I must admit that I've never been in that pub; Sky Sport signs are usually a total deterrent for me..

That's it for today; Thanks for looking!

There was something in the news yesterday (or day before?) about more pubs closing down. I really don't know whether it has more to do with rising costs or less trade?

Possibly both? The prices for drinks are eye watering at times.. I understand they have big overheads but it's certainly another deterrent for some, apart from those Sky Sports banners..

Sky sports is killing the pub! I’m the same as I don’t like football or people who take it too seriously. The weather here in Berks was insane last night, rained extensively hard!

Sky sports is killing the pub

Well, thank you! I wouldn't dare speaking it out loud, but it keeps all the non-footballers out and they often have good money to spend.. Their loss..

Looks like it was like this everywhere and it sure was that, insane!!

It’s bad really. We’ve two walkable pubs, one is a sp-eeee-awwwwwts pub, that’s how they pronounce it. The other is a nice local one that does good pub grub and a couple of my favourite beers. I’d happily write some pub reviews lol.

It seems the rain and wind knocked out the trains for today, but I was WFH anyway. I know people who were on the roads last night and they said it was horrible.

Pubs are just dying these days. COVID didn't help, but it goes back further as people get their entertainment at home.

Always does, doesn't it? 😂

but it goes back further

It needs good landlords/-ladies that are willing to spend a lot of time in getting people in the pub.. Some are very good at it and succeed.. but that's a minority sadly.
I love the British pub culture and would miss it greatly if all pubs where just restaurants and such like.

Dear @anna-newkey, you just got hugged.
