My Actifit Report Card: September 16 2021

in Actifit3 years ago (edited)

A lovely clear blue sky and on a mission to explore some new tracks. I was expecting a big walk - drove rather than ride so did not have to do the big hill on the way back. The walk goes around one side of a big landfill area - punctuated by the sound of machinery.

Native viola in a few places. Fire trail goes under the powerlines - there is a theme here. No orchids in the grassy areas underneath

View across to Killara - next suburb south

Lots of patersonia iris

I did take a side path in a loop up to rainforest below the tip. There were signs of orchids in there but no buds or flowers

Back to the track and stopped to take this photo against the track - these are just emerging

Every time I stop I see stuff - 4 orchids getting ready. The seeds have pulled up on one of those runoff mounds they build across the trails. One hour 10 minutes walking to see first orchid plants. And not reached halfway for the loop walk.

More powerline images across to Belrose. Track begins to drop down to Fireclay Creek.

Did find an orchid on the side of the track - caladenia carnea - a new orchid site for me

Close up

Leaf of the caladenia

The bush alongside looked a likely spot for orchids - did find a bearded orchid in bud. This flash of white caught my eye

Kept pushing down to the creek - saw this cluster of orchid leaves under a rock. There were only plants under the rock - not above or below or alongside

My walking plan was to follow Bare Ceeek Trail to join up with tracks I walked in Garigal NP a few weeks ago. I hit a t-junction, checked the map and headed left. I thought it was the right way and did not check map again. Kept walking through a big change of bush to more heath like. Checked map after maybe 2 kms walking - going the wrong way. That is OK as it tells me not to explore that again. Turned around and onto Bare Creek track and then took this track

Nice creek crossing

Luckily I did not have to walk through there. Someone has made a stone bridge for walkers higher up

It is special to have access to nature like this close to home. The track was busy with mountain bike riders. Normally on a weekday I would have it to myself.

Always a challenge to get focus on this flower - double stacker helped

Not sure what this flower is - the detail is fabulous. The way the centre has opened out with all the bristly detail is special

As I worked up the hill I saw this bud forming on top of a long spike

with its single leaf. It is a pink sun orchid getting ready. It may open if it gets warm enough. That is forecast. I pinned the GPS location for a weekend visit. Feels like a two orchid walk so far.

Made my way out of the park onto the suburban streets. The road follows the bush and local land care group has kept the verges clear - no mowing.

Found a bearded orchid flowering - first photo was not good but the spider web was working

And a little further was a fully open bearded orchid

Calochilus robertsonii

This image shows the street view. It turned into a big walk. I did get two orchids which makes it a win. I will come back to see if the pink sun orchids will open.

Did do some garden tidy up work. Did do some IM stuff and found a new product to promote to help with Google's latest spam link policy.

With markets showing quite a lot of nerves, I stayed away. Options expiry is on Friday and there will be a few stocks assigned. I will be conserving cash for a bit. Friday night will be a little busy.

Dinner: Two easy one pot fish dishes in the airfryer
