Hyacinth Orchids on Christmas Eve : December 24 2022

in Actifitlast year (edited)

Day started out a little differently - cycled with my wife down to pub for a coffee. Coffee was good and local. Breakfast did not come out of the kitchen - teething problems. Went down to boat ramp to show her

Always pelicans down there

Went for a ride into Seven Mile Beach NP to look for orchids - first orchid was on the roadside on the way

Blotched hyacinth orchid - dipodium punctatum. First time seeing one on west side of the road

Surprised to find a bicycle in the bush - old style and broken front wheel further in

Rode to centre track and walked back toward where I walked the day before

Variegated hyacinth orchid - dipodium variegatum

The photographer eye caught this juxtaposition of two plants - one growing through the other

The track passes through this cluster of palm like trees - quite striking

Trigger plant with just one flower open

More hyacinth orchids on the way back

Deeper in the bush was a pinker orchid

This is where ID gets hard - dipodium roseum has stripes on the labellum and white or pink tufts - maybe this is enough

Different angle suggests it is rose hyacinth orchid

Stepped back makes a good display

Decided to walk all the way down to the beach and to look on the road track edges. Love this fern emerging

Eucalyptus cry like this when they are stressed or over watered

Found one budding orchid on the way

Looking north up Seven Mile Beach to Gerroa

Dipodium variegatum on the way back

4 in a row

Was good to get out for 2nd ride of the day.

Was Christmas Eve - start it off the way we did in Bangkok 3 years ago - mojitos. A good start.

Cooked dinner too - pasta with chicken

Happy Christmas
