First season nodding greenhood on local track : May 27 2023

in Actifit11 months ago (edited)

Nice blue sky day. Turned into something of a down mood day. The way stock markets are struggling around the debt ceiling negotiations do not help. We all know this stuff goes down to the wire but markets do not know how to take it in stride. Maybe this time they won't is the mood?

Did some garden work planting grass sections growing over the paving onto a section in front of the woodpile. Flower photo from the walk after - wonder if I can grow these

Went walking in the late afternoon to look for greenhoods on a local track

Interesting fungus growing in section cleared in the track work

Fab afternoon light for photo of wattle flower

Came off track in a known spot - budding nodding greenhood. Spied a budding helmet orchid in a section not walked before - photos were not good. Just beyond was the first nodding greenhood of the season

Pterostylis nutans

Spurred helmet orchid - corybas aconitiflorus

So much mushroom variety

Sharp greenhood in a new spot

Always like to find a second flower - nodding greenhood on the way

Turned into a spurred helmet orchid day - two in frame

A few variants in colour

Maybe the best photo

Mushroom in black

At least 10 cobra greenhoods open

Front on photos are hard to get focus right

Deeper burgundy version

Kept walking along Darri Track to the Glengarry firetrail - small mosquito orchid - acianthus pusillis - note the pollinator ant in lower right corner

Double decker mushrooms. Nice walk with 5 orchids in flower and one new for the season. Was hoping for a 6th but no sign. Good news - no leeches.

Something different caught my eye at home - Better Cotton. Sound all good - the detailed words say the product may not have any Better Cotton in it. Not so good after all.

Dinner idea was forming on the walk - creamy chicken mushroom dish. Funny thing is my wife had been searching the same.

Ingredients assembled: Chicken thighs seasoned and dusted with flour, cream, mustard, white wine, mushrooms, sprung onions, garlic, bacon, oil. Simple process. Fry chicken and bacon

Added some breadcrumbs to chicken and finished in airfryer

Make the sauce - cook mushroom in butter, add in garlic and spring onions. Add in a little wine and then cream - may need thickening with a little flour.

Served with pasta. Next time - skip the mustard.

Turned into a late night. Watched the end of the Giro D'Italia. Heart break for Geraint Thomas.

Another solid day from Orchidman! I love that you recognize the different varieties and venture into the woods to pick them out for us.

Sunny and 27 here so I will be attacking the shed that seems to accumulate stuff that should be in the dump!

We have a garage like that. Good luck.

Man I got through the shed alright but didn't get to the garage. I have a metal recycling run and then a bigass dump run a couple years in the making.

Hive Power Up Day - June 1st 2023

The dish looks so nice you just be a good chef as well.

Been cooking a long time - skills get better almost every day. Mother had me in charge of barbecue at 12 or so. Moved out of university residence at 21 - been cooking ever since.

Wow this is so nice to know which probably you can accept as it being a hobby as well

Been walking tracks looking for orchids for nearly 8 years - great photo hobby and nobody bothers me
