Learning the music...

Five different concerts in a bit over two weeks... a bit of a silly idea? Well, if it is the same programme then it would be just fine! Sadly, we decided to do five different programmes across a huge composition time period as well! That's the way we do things here... slightly insane, but after this short burn period, we have a little bit of a rest for our ensemble... but the two of us will be doing other projects instead!

Thankfully, we had thought a little bit ahead, and there is some overlap in some of the programmes, one piece here and there, and then there are little bits that we have taken from past programmes... so, we are nuts, but not COMPLETELY nuts!

Still... it is a lot to stick in our heads... but the sheer relief when it comes out and doesn't need to be retained is quite substantial!

During the week, I had to take a 1 hour drive out (each way...) to check out a venue that we will be playing at. It is an old courthouse that is now being used for concerts, and it is a really nice little space!

However, we had a little bit of a heads up that it might be a bit tricky to get a harpsichord into the room and I thought it would be a good idea to scout the place out before we headed in for disaster on the day of the concert!

Ideally, we want to get one of the slightly larger double manual harpsischords into the space instead of the smaller single manuals. However, that does mean that it is longer and a bit wider, and that means that if space is at a premium then we might be in for a bit of a tight moving experience.

But looking in at the rear access with the ramp... it does look like we can make this tight corner if we are on a trolley with the harpsichord on its side.

It will be tight, but it should work. The measurements that I used were about 10 centimetres longer to give us a bit of buffer room. In the worst case, we might need to tilt it and possible carry it instead off the trolley... but it should work!

The front entry could also be possible, but it would be an even tighter squeeze... we would have to tuck our hands in to make it work, but it does seem to be a possible solution.

I did also check the windows... Dutch style! But these were a little bit too short to manage to get the instrument through. Possibly it could have worked on an angle, but that starts get a bit hairy!

So, fingers crossed for this one that I managed to gauge the distances, angles, and measurements right... or this could be a very very weird experience. Luckily, I do have a solo violin concert up my sleeve that will be already have been performed earlier in the week... so, if we are in an absolute disaster with the harpsichord fit, there is still going to be a concert!
