RE: Jazz-Matinee – Wynton Marsalis & Eric Clapton

in Music2 years ago (edited)

The greatest contribution of Wynton Marsalis was to recover the tradition of jazz in the early 1980's after a decade of jazz-rock, jazz fusion and smooth jazz, establishing the neo-bop school and bringing alive jazz again. His best works in my opinion: Think of One (1983), Black Codes (From the Underground) (1985) and Standard Time, Vol. 1 (1987).

Sort:

But Clapton does not understand jazz. He is and remains an outsider who can only look respectfully at the stage from below.

But what devil drove him into the arms of Clapton?

Who knows? I don't think it's a good idea.

It was probably the worst idea Marsalis ever had. Clapton can't do any better because he doesn't understand jazz.
