I hate "playing" things on my Piano, but I love improvising on it. I know what I am playing is never complex or accomplished, compared to the piles of music theory books that gather dust on the music stand attached to it, but there is a certain flow-state that I get while doing it.
it is the same flow state as writing, as drawing, as working on retouching my digital images and conceptualising my creative writing.
Only... I had a mere ~9 months "formal" training just to understand scales, chords, counting a beat, and still don't really understand the circle of fifths (I think I'm afraid to), but know enough about progressions to get away with it sound okay.
But I can hear that flow state and those progressions in this jam. Unlike the jam in my fridge. It doesn't make sounds. :P
That’s essentially what I practice the “skill” side for, just so I can navigate my ideas more freely. The more I jam, the more I want to write songs and the more I write songs, the more I want to jam. My shows now are 50% jamming, perfect 😃
I didn’t know you were into the same thing. Have you recorded anything?
Nothing. I have a Focus rite that I can plug my digital piano into to, but either the instrument input is noisy, or the output from the piano's port is poor, or my cable is shit.
I do not play everyday, I neglect my hands and the craft.
Trying to figure out what the problem is is the single most expensive thing about playing music. I bought a new interface cause I thought mine was broken only to find out it was the headphones. Hey. That could be your problem too, it’s possible focusrite makes nice interfaces and shitty headphones.
Also check the bps on the DAW, I’m not sure how it works but fiddling with that will fix some crackling or noise issues. If you cant figure out what i mean ill tell you how to do it when i get home.
Add running linux to the mix, and it complicates it even further :P My XLR mic (plugged into the same interface) is fine, however!
