Hello friends, good vibes to all.
Many times we associate music with nostalgia because it tends to remind us of times that were once good or important, even with certain smells and aromas this happens to us but today I am going to appeal to music logically. I said it once but I repeat it again, I consider myself a music lover, for me music is life, it is peace, it is tranquility and it is quality time we spend with ourselves just when we play a song.
Being a lover of this art, it is clear that I listen to music every day, there is no day that I don't do it, and it has been like that for many years, easily 20-25 years ago. That's why today I want to share with you some of the songs that I remember with special affection because they were melodies that, as the title says, grew with me to the point that today I can still listen to them. Without further, these are some of them.
- Bon Jovi - It's My Life.
This song that came out in the year 2000 takes me back to those mornings before going to school while I was getting up and having breakfast, they always played it on the music channels of that time, MTV, for example. It's amazing that every time I listen to it the mood changes for the better, both because of the same nostalgia and because it is one of the best songs of those years. Long live Bon Jovi and this great anthem.
- Red Hot Chili Peppers - Californication.
The first thing that comes to mind with this song is clearly its videoclip set as if it were a video game, which by the way is "Crazy Taxi" or at least served as an influence. This gem was created in 1999 but was released in the same way in 2000 being one of the references of that decade and clearly mine too. What caught my attention was its lyrics, which are a strong criticism of certain aspects of society. Today it is still part of my playlist without any doubt.
- Backstreet Boys - I Want It That Way.
Yes friends, not everything is rock. I remember there was a stigma in those years that this type of music made by the "Boys Band" was only listened to by women, needless to say that retrograde mentality has totally changed today. At 35 years old I consider myself a loyal BSB fan, there is no reason not to be and there is not because most of their songs, if not ALL of them are classics, they are songs that are in the subconscious of many people, in my case it happens to me with this one in specific. Great the Backstreet Boys.
- Linkin Park - In The End.
It was 2002 and I was still in high school when I met my first high school sweetheart. One of the things I liked about her is that we shared the same taste for Linkin Park, that's why this song will always bring back good memories. When Chester Bennington committed suicide I think in 2017 it really hurt me because I grew up listening to this band, I still listen to it but it was very sad and devastating news. In The End is the most important song on this list for me and look there is quality.
- The Cranberries - Zombie.
We went back in time and landed in 1994. Can you imagine a 9 year old kid listening to this song? - I remember it was the voice of Dolores, the lead singer of the group, that stuck in my mind. Back then it was all radio and as I said music channels like VH1 and MTV where we could watch the videos. Zombie is an emblem of the nineties that grew with me since I was 9 years old until today.
- Michael Jackson - Black Or White.
The same thing happened to me with this 1991 work of art as it did with Californication, its video at the time "blew my mind", but this time I was only 6 or 7 years old, so my impression was the greatest. When I saw it for the first time I found it fascinating how people changed each other as they moved their heads, it was a reaction that stayed with me forever in my memory. Michael Jackson was a person and above all an artist far ahead of the rest and that is seen with this video and with most of the ones he made.
- System Of A Down - Chop Suey.
We come to the last of the list but not less important. System of a Down is one of those bands that you either hated or loved to death, in my case it was the second one. Toxicity was the album where this piece was included and the one I remember the most, but why? - Because it was the first song I learned on drums. I think I was in my third year of high school when it came out and I was impressed with that CD, so much so that I bought it in physical form. At that time my passion for playing music was just starting and my beginnings were with this band and Linkin Park, that's why the memory is always pleasant with this song.
These were some of the songs that marked me the most in my childhood and adolescence. Clearly they do not represent my musical tastes of today because I am a person who listens to ALL kinds of music but yes, these have a special place in my memories and listening to them take me to very good and fun times.
¡Un abrazo a todos, nos escuchamos en la próxima!
