There are some artists that just have been in your list forever, but you never really had a chance of actually seeing them live in whatever situation. No festivals, no live shows and no options on that this is happening anytime soon.
For a long time this was the situation of Rival Consoles by me. I guess I have mentioned music by this British dude multiple times already in my posts because this is always just a go- to kind of situation. Especially his Persona album was one of my favorites for a long time, and I decided to also get this album as well as another old one called Odyssey/Sonne both on vinyl.
It is about the listening experience when putting on some vinyl, you really take the time to actually listen to something turning the record around. It takes effort and that means you are more actively listening to something.
Anyway...I have been eyeballing for years to see Rival Consoles somewhere out in the wild. But never really got the option.

Until recently he started touring again and that was already years ago. Better said, this dude didn't do a lot of touring at all in general.
That changed this weekend. With this current tour stopping by in Amsterdam and also in Antwerpen Belgium all of a sudden there were endless options to go and see the master at work.

Packed locked and loaded
In the small venue in the Melkweg the place was sold out with people who were looking forward to this show. I was a bit worried about the sound because in the pre-program it seemed like there was a bit too much low sounds, but that changed in the beginning of the set.
Ofcourse there were a lot of tracks from the newer albums. Although I do like these albums, I also find they have less body compared to the older ones. Those songs all felt like singular master pieces while the ones from the new album are a bit more in the same 'vibe' .

One of the newer songs that I like a lot is one called Theme that has also been used as theme song for a video game called Mindseye.
Ofcourse also Unfolding dropped by which is the very distinct opening song from the Persona Album and also ending the set with Recovery felt like a totally natural thing to do.

But uhmmm...
Sure there were a lot more new songs than I had hoped for, but that also was not really a surprise.
What I had hoped more off was that I would have been able to see more of what he actually was doing. See the hands of the master at work in what he exactly is doing.
Now I was standing a lot lower and just saw stuff in the distance even though I was standing quite close by. There were some balcony spots that would have helped on this but they were also filled up pretty fast.
And on that perspective when you really like a part of the music that can be a bit annoying sometimes.
This snap below is here from my actual view from the set and that is while I am not even that short. (well maybe compared to other Dutchies that is)

Enough complaining here because the show was awesome!! I enjoyed every second of it and would totally go again if there was a next opportunity again.
It is always cool to see your hero at work live!!!
Check out the video for a small impression!
I think I have heard about Rival Consoles exactly from you or from Edje already some years ago, or in some combination of the posts of you two 😂, it was the track Untravel, which I am listening to right now while seeing your post 😇. Btw, I don't see the video in this post, or maybe it is maybe on my side that it doesn't show. 🤷♀
The one you listened to while managing this post, is one of the very few I have marked at the music platforms I use to listen to music. Not sure if I have ever posted about them. I shared it with you outside the blockchain... Wait... Just checked, back in 2021 it was... But But But, you've seen a post from Karin before I shared... You told me so back then 🥳🎶
Nope you are right. I am also not seeing the video and cant get it uploaded again, even though it said it was uploaded. Weird stuff and will keep trying for sure!
Lovely that I got you to listen to this artist, the man needs more exposure!
(and true, have written already a ton of times about this dude :D)
Rival Consoles live! 🤩 Persona & Odyssey on vinyl, that's a win! 🐎
Hehehe is this a fan here as well?? :D
Finally! But Melkweg? That is a small location pffff Am glad you liked this concert, even though it was so busy. I wouldn't be able to go through the entire thing when blocked on all sides. I must admit, I wasn't following these guys too closely, but you make me dig into their work more. Thanks for the trigger 🎶 🙂 For me, this weekend was Awakening Upclose. Surprisingly interesting. Music was ok. The festival itself was better than expected, from the setup to the people.
Dig deeper!! Yeah melkweg small venue...Totally small but on the other hand that made it kind of cozy though. Was looking if there was any sign of you to be found because that would have also been something for you as well.
How was upclose? What day did you go? (not every day had the best line up I saw there)
Went on Saturday. Music was ok-ish. Did like the b2b by JakoJako & Philippa Pacho very much. Marrøn & Rødhåd: I expected more. Marrøn by himself, I usually like, one of the few in this style I can handle :) For the rest, lalalala, hahahaha. Sunday after-hours in the woods, Eerste Communie had a party. I wasn't able to go. Something to do with work on Monday. But that would've been a great night. And Dasha Rush I believe, was playing Sunday evening, someone I wanted to hear. But ok, it wasnt meant to be :)
Oe... jako jako and dasha rush. Sounds scape or full beat modus??
Sounds like you had the good day! ;D
Jako Jako: full beat mode; Never heard her soundscaping. And I don't expect Dasha to have done that, since she was programmed at the end of day/evening on mainstage afaik. That said, Saturday mainstage closing wasn't techno as well, but more like electro combined with uhm don't know really {lol}
Surely did have a great time. Between the music and fun, got served with splendid Italian food as well by the guy who owns and cooks in this great Italian restaurant in Amsterdam. He had his food truck on Awakenings, making artists, their sidekicks and gang happy with his cooking skills.
Had never heard about this artist before, just listened to some songs: very cool beats! And funny, he has a song called Gaivotas... and that's the portuguese word for seagulls! :)
seagulls! Nice I didn't know!
The beats are thick right? And the layering of synths is also really something else
Agreed! Will have to explore this sound a little better!
