Todo pueblo tiene costumbres y tradiciones que lo caracterizan y que de una u otra manera se mantienen viva con el transcurrir de los años en el Oriente Venezolano una de las costumbres que se ha mantenido viva es venerar cada 8 de septiembre a su patrona la Virgen del Valle.

Esta es una tradición que nace en la isla de Margarita, especialmente en el Valle del Espíritu Santo donde se encuentra el santuario de la Virgen, cuya devoción se ha esparcido en todo el oriente del país debido a los milagros concedidos, el más famosos de ellos el del año 1608, en donde la isla de Margarita experimentó una gran sequía. Por tal motivo, los margariteños decidieron sacar la Virgen y llevarla en procesión hasta la Asunción. De acuerdo con los testimonios que se tienen de la época, en el momento en que la procesión llegó a esta ciudad, el cielo se ennegreció y pronto comenzó a precipitarse una fuerte lluvia sobre toda la isla.

Por esta razón quiero compartirles una actividad que realizaron los residente de la comunidad de El Muco Carúpano estado Sucre, en la cual se tuve el placer de participar como mandolinista acompañando un encuentro de galerón en honor a la Virgen del Valle, donde participaron dos grandes galeronistas de nuestro país Johnny Martínez (El Picaflor del Lirio) y José Arias (La Centella de Oriente).
