That was my approach when I first started listening (Bleak - for obvious reasons - the SW connection). It took some time to get into me and it's the same for every Opeth track I try to crack. I find I have to do this with each one before the flavour comes out!
Yeah, I love them.. but they are tough to get into.. at least I found them so. You need to listen through the noise to hear the good stuff.
You misunderstand @slobberchops, the noise IS the good stuff, the soft prog stuff is the icing on the cake 😉
