"Paul is dead", abbreviated with the acronym PID, is a conspiracy theory claiming the death and replacement of Paul McCartney, bassist and singer-songwriter of the British band The Beatles. It is said that Paul, one of the most important figures in 20th century music, was involved in a car accident on November 9, 1966, which killed him.

Se dice que Paul, una de las figuras más importantes de la música en el siglo XX, habría sufrido un accidente automovilístico el 9 de noviembre de 1966 el cual acabaría con su vida.

It all begins in 1696 when Russ Gibb, announcer of a radio program, receives a call from a student named "Tom" of the University of Eastern Michigan, the boy claimed the death of the member of The Beatles, he advised Russ to listen to the song "Revoloution 9" in reverse. After this the announcer claimed to hear the phrase "Turn me on, dead man".
Todo comienza en 1696 cuando Russ Gibb, locutor de un programa de radio, recibe una llamada de un estudiante llamado "Tom" de la Universidad del Este de Michigan, el chico reclamaba la muerte del miembro de Los Beatles, le aconsejó a Russ que escuchara la canción "Revoloution 9" al revés. Después de esto el locutor afirmó escuchar la frase "Turn me on, dead man" (enciéndeme hombre muerto).

Two days after the event, the Michigan Daily newspaper announced its new article "McCartney is dead: new evidence comes to light". The article was written by two students from the University of Michigan, it talked about a series of hidden clues or references that could be seen on the Abbey Road album cover.
Dos días después del suceso, el periódico Michigan Daily anunció su nuevo artículo "McCartney está muerto: salen a la luz nuevas pruebas". El artículo, escrito por dos estudiantes de la Universidad de Michigan, hablaba de una serie de pistas o referencias ocultas que podían verse en la portada del álbum de Abbey Road.
There is much evidence in favor of this theory, one of the first clues being the cover of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, which supposedly depicts McCartney's funeral, where a patch with the initials "OPD" appears on the clothing of his "understudy". In addition, on the back cover of the album, George noted the phrase "Wednesday morning at 5 o' clock". According to this theory, this was the time Paul was pronounced dead. It might also be mentioned that Paul is the only one turning his back .
Hay muchas pruebas a favor de esta teoría, una de las primeras pistas es la portada de Sgt. Pepper´s Lonely Hearts Club Band, la cual supuestamente representa el funeral de McCartney, donde un parche con las iniciales “OPD” aparece en la vestimenta de su “suplente”, lo cual significaría “Officially Pronounced Dead” (Oficialmente Muerto). Además, en la contraportada del álbum, George señaló la frase "Wednesday morning at 5 o´ clock". Según esta teoría, este fue el momento en que Paul fue declarado muerto. También se podría mencionar que Paul es el único dando la espalda.

Secondly, there are songs. Some people hear the lyrics of the White Album backwards, saying that John Lennon can be heard saying "Paul is dead, i miss him, i miss him", as well as other songs (like Strawberry Fields Fields Forever, it is said that "I buried Paul" can be heard).

"A Day In A Life" is one among many of the songs where clear clues can be seen in its lyrics:
"He blew his mind out in a car
He didn't notice that the lights had changed
A crowd of people stood and stared
They'd seen his face before
Nobody was really sure if he was from the House of Lords"

There is also the famous Abbey Road photo, which they said is the clearest sign. John appeared dressed in white from the beginning because he led the team on behalf of the missionaries. Ringo wore black clothes because it was a funeral. When Paul appears, the cigar in his right hand (taking into account that Paul is left-handed) was pointing to the ground and he was not wearing shoes, which is meant to be a sign of mourning in Sicily. George was wearing jeans at the end, because he was the one who was going to dig the grave. In the background of the photo, a Beetle appeared with the license plate number 28 If, which means that, if Paul is not dead, he would be 28 years old.
También está la famosa foto de Abbey Road, que dijeron es la señal más clara. John apareció vestido de blanco desde el principio porque lideró el equipo en nombre de los misioneros. Ringo vestía ropa negra porque era un funeral. Cuando aparece Paul, el cigarro en la mano derecha (tomando en cuenta de que Paul es zurdo) apuntaba al suelo y no llevaba zapatos, lo que significa ser una señal de luto en Sicilia. George vestía jeans al final, porque él era el que iba a cavar la tumba. En el fondo de la foto, apareció un escarabajo con la matrícula número 28 If, lo que significa que, si Paul no está muerto, tendría 28 años.
Can all this be true or are the band members true geniuses?
Well, that was a small summary of the theory and all the "evidence and clues" it brings with it. Personally this myth/legend seems to me to be nothing more than that, a myth. I think it is humanly impossible to look for and find someone identical, either referring to their talent or appearance. It is absurd to think that someone like Paul could have been replaced so easily, in fact after the release of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, McCartney had a great musical development, composing hits like "Hey Jude" and "Let It Be".
¿Puede ser todo esto cierto o los integrantes de la banda son verdaderos genios? Bueno, eso fue un pequeño resumen de la teoría y de todas las “pruebas y pistas” que trae con ella. Personalmente este mito/leyenda no me parece más que eso, un mito. Creo que es humanamente imposible buscar y encontrar a alguien idéntico, ya sea refiriéndose a su talento o apariencia. Es absurdo pensar que alguien como Paul pudo haber sido reemplazado tan fácilmente, de hecho luego del lanzamiento de Sgt. Pepper´s Lonely Hearts Club Band, McCartney tuvo un gran desarrollo musical, logrando componer éxitos como “Hey Jude” y “Let It Be”.

Not to mention that many of the "proofs" were disproved, for example; the photography of the car in which McCartney "died" is actually about the car accident which took the life of Tara Browne, John Lennon's friend (which by the way was the inspiration for the song "A Day In A Life").
Sin mencionar que muchas de las “pruebas” fueron desmentidas, por ejemplo; la fotografía del auto en el cual “falleció” McCartney en realidad se trata del accidente automovilístico el cual acabó con la vida de Tara Browne, amigo de John Lennon (el cual por cierto fue la inspiración para la canción “A Day In A Life”).
I think the Liverpool four were brilliant at thinking of everything. All the rumors, evidence and clues were nothing more than their own work, and certainly, this legend that began in 1969 generated a great fame and evolution regarding their career as artists.

Muy probablemente sea un mito que ellos mismos crearon para crear más fama.
Aún así, es un mito increíblemente interesante, y el que hubieran esa clase de Easter eggs solo da a creer que los Beatles eran genios a la hora del marketing.

Es, cuando menos, bastante curioso todo. El hecho de haber tantas pistas provenientes del propio trabajo de la banda es lo que lo hace algo deliberado. Como dices, si fuese tan fácil reemplazar talentos así y que además fueran físicamente parecidos (o aún idénticos) entonces tendríamos una copia de cada artista andando por ahí jaja
