Lockdown Uncertainty... A Positive Story For You

in Music5 years ago

Feel Good Vibes

Thanks to the UK Government's lockdown measures for care/nursing homes, I've not been able to see my Gran for almost 8 months until today - her birthday. And I wasn't going to let her 95th birthday weekend go to waste due to some BS about "not being allowed in the home". Don't get me wrong, I understand that and I'm not having a go at the care home she is at but we can at least stand a few metres away from the window, call her mobile and see her from the car park surely?

"Nope"

You....I'm not having that!

Then, during one of my runs for the 2,020 km challenge I'm doing (where I'm trying to run/hike a total combination of 2,020 km /1,255 miles in 2020 for Alzheimer's Society), I had a moment of inspiration! I remembered when I visited her before lockdown, her window overlooks a private side street that leads to a river.

I thought I'd surprise her yesterday and went to this side street, gave her a call on the mobile and said "come to the window, can you see me?" and she said she could! The unfortunate thing was, I couldn't see her because I was looking up at the window but it was reflecting the clouds above so it felt a bit strange talking to reflected clouds (my friends joked saying I'd managed to tap in to the direct line to heaven LOL)!

She didn't have the key to open the window so hopefully next time we try this workaround, we'll be able to see each other properly.

Today though, common sense and humanity shone through as my family dropped off some presents to the care home (they spray it down with sanitiser) and the nurses said she can come to the window for us on the ground floor and we could call her mobile, speak to her and see her! It was great to see her again after such a long time and I know now that we have the "backstreet option" available. I just wish I thought of that sooner but I hope it made her birthday weekend positive and that this story maybe brought a smile to your face at least.

Lockdown Uncertainty

So tomorrow (Monday 12th October), our Prime Minister in the UK will make an announcement about some new lockdown measures and we find out how things are going to be (even more) affected by unclear instructions and guidelines for all businesses and walks of life. It's all been very uncertain and I'm pretty sure that will continue throughout the coming months but stay safe everyone, use your common sense and don't buy toilet paper unless you have like, half a roll left haha!

Thought it would be appropriate to share this track called Uncertainty which has been uploaded on my Soundcloud page for a while now but always seems to find itself being relevant for many a situation. Hope you enjoy!

Take care

Happy Birthday to your granny, Nicky! I'm sorry you haven't visited her for 8 months, but yeah this period is really crazy and I know how you feel since a few days ago I managed to return to my hometown for 3 days to visit my loved ones. Haven't visited them since December 2019! That really sucks, but hopefully, we will see some good changes soon..

Thanks a lot little sister 😊

I'm sorry to hear about your situation as well regarding your family. It's the same thing everywhere and it's just horrible, almost Draconian the way things are playing out everywhere.

We keep our fingers crossed for better days coming soon but I'm also pleased you got to see your family 🙂

I am so glad that you managed even just a little view of your Granny. As you know, I have had my own rant about draconian and nonsensical and mixed messages...

Nevertheless

Happy 95th birthday to Granny!

With best wishes from almost the tip of Africa 🤗💜🥂💐

Thanks a lot Fiona 🤗

It was so good to see her again and where there's a will, there's a way. We'll have to make do with what we can, ranting aside and save that energy for constructive things 😊

Exactly. I am working on that. I confess it's been a little difficult of late, but we'll get there. At least we have sunshine and warmer weather!

Yeah sunshine is always a good way to feel better, not that we get too much of it in the UK! Sending you positive vibes 🙂

Quite certain that your little visit has certainly warmed her heart greatly. It must be great joy for her to see you especially your effort to let her see you during lockdown.

Thanks a lot man for the comforting words. When someone says "you can't do..." I hear the words "you can..." and I was determined to see her and I felt a happiness that I hadn't felt for a while and seeing Gran smile with us was a warm way to spend today. Think I'll do it more often 😊

Very cool read @nickyhavey, thanks for posting this one. Good call going to the window. get it?

And good call with the toilet paper, too, I was shocked when all three markets there in town had empty shelves. 'What?!' Then I'd call around and it was the same everywhere. I don't get it. An unknown something, people can't see their grandma, politicians are speaking in double words, market crash, lockdown, masks, other overnights sensation words and people around the world were most concerned with cleaning shit off themselves. 🤔 Really, shit??

In a time of confusion, their biggest concern..

Cleaning shit off their self.

Hey man, thanks for checking it out and I see what you did there 😁

Well, to be fair, there is a lot of shit out there and so, toilet paper is probably the first line of defence. After that, what is there? People start raiding the salad section for leaves?

You're welcome.

Copy that! I don't know, I may be going out on a limb here but I was kinda leaning toward the shower. You're about a 1/2 days ahead of me, what's the latest over there?

Salad leaves are gone mate, cleared off the shelves hahaha!

Touching story around the current madness everywhere - glad you saw Granny, that is the most important one.

Thanks a lot Uwe mate, yeah it's just mad everywhere and I hope people get to see their loved ones when they can, even if it requires some outside the box thinking. Hope everything is OK with you 🙂
