From Holland to Africa and Indonesia!
Jungle by Night take the classic grooves of African pop of the 60s and 70s a step further on. The nine young musicians from Amsterdam play an eclectic mix of Ethno-Jazz, Afrobeat and Afrofunk, spiced with a little desert blues.
Jungle by Night entwickeln die klassischen Grooves des afrikanischen Pop der 60er und 70er-Jahre weiter. Die neun blutjungen Musiker aus Amsterdam spielen eine eklektische Mischung aus Ethnojazz, Afrobeat und Afrofunk, gewürzt mit ein wenig Wüstenblues.
There are many bands that have discovered the golden era of African pop music for themselves, especially Afrobeat. However, Jungle by Night does not merely copy the music, because they develop the grooves of past decades independently. This already started at school, where Pyke, Pieter, Tienson, Jac, Gino, Bo, Sonny, Younes and Ko made the rehearsal room unstable.
Es gibt viele Formationen, die die goldene Ära der afrikanischen Popmusik für sich entdeckt haben, vor allem den Afrobeat. Doch bloßes Nachspielen ist bei Jungle by Night nicht angesagt, denn sie entwickeln die Grooves vergangener Jahrzehnte eigenständig weiter. Das fing bereits auf der Schule an, wo Pyke, Pieter, Tienson, Jac, Gino, Bo, Sonny, Younes und Ko den Proberaum unsicher machten.
2010 their first single called "E.T." is released, which leads to an EP. The full album "Hidden" quickly followed. And it shows that Jungle By Night can also move away from African idioms: Two of the band members are of Indonesian origin, and this comes out with unmistakable gamelan hints.
2010 erscheint ihre erste Single namens "E.T.", die in eine EP mündet. Zügig folgt das vollständige Album "Hidden". Und auf dem zeigt sich, dass Jungle By Night von den afrikanischen Idiomen auch mal weggehen können: Zwei der Bandmitglieder sind indonesischen Ursprungs, und das kommt mit unverkennbaren Gamelan-Anklängen zum Vorschein.
Meanwhile, they have opened shows for Mayer Hawthorne and John Legend, played at a lot of big European festivals and released a worthy follow-up to "Hidden" with "The Hunt". For this, they have received words of encouragement from the great legends themselves, including Ethiopian Ethiopian-jazz Grandmaster Mulatu Astatke and Afrobeat veteran Tony Allen. They also share the same label, Kindred Spirits, with the latter. So, they are probably well on their way to a promising future.
Mittlerweile haben sie Shows für Mayer Hawthorne und John Legend eröffnet, auf einer Menge großer europäischer Festivals gespielt und mit "The Hunt" einen würdigen Nachfolger zu "Hidden" herausgebracht. Dafür haben sie von den großen Legenden selbst ermutigende Worte bekommen, unter anderem vom äthiopischen Ethio-Jazz Großmeister Mulatu Astatke und vom Afrobeat-Veteranen Tony Allen. Mit letzterem teilen sie auch das gleiche Label, Kindred Spirits. Damit sind sie wohl auf dem besten Wege in eine vielversprechende Zukunft.

Mit den Ohren rechts und links abgedichtet – und du fliegst dahin! Ich bin begeistert.
Doch da das Gen der Old School in mir lagert, lungere ich noch immer in der Ecke und warte, dass Miles Davis seine Inspiration an eine Generation weiterleitet, die mit Sax, Schlagzeug, Bass, Gitarre und Horn die Geschichten erzählt – so traurig sie auch sein möge.

... und ob! Im Augenblick hat es für mich den Anschein, als versuche man mit allen verfügbaren Mitteln, Versäumtes nachzuholen.
Bestes Beispiel war wohl am letzten Wochenende Rock am Ring. Da die Agenturen die Künstler immer für mehrere Auftritte buchen, werden sie bei den Veranstaltern angeboten wie Sauerbier.
Das sind auch alles Opfer..

Ich laufe mir auch Woche für Woche Löcher in die Socken, nur um Überzeugungsarbeit zu leisten, damit sich solche Typen am heiligen Sonntag überhaupt auf die Bühne bewegen. :-)
