With special affection I dedicate to you this theme that unites Venezuelan and Argentine cultures in a single theme. Alfonsina Storni, to whom this beautiful piece of music is dedicated (Capriasca, May 29, 1892-Mar del Plata, October 25, 1938) was an Argentine poet and writer linked to modernism.
This song is inspired by the real experience of the mentioned lady. She committed suicide in Mar del Plata by throwing herself off the breakwater of the Argentine Women's Club. She thought that suicide was the best option to free herself from the pain that afflicted her due to being suffering from a terrible breast cancer. It is told, in a poetic way, that she went slowly into the sea, hence the story of the song "Alfonsina y el mar", which recounts the event and suggests the reason.
