The lifestyle of a minimalist should be simple and organized. Maybe for that reason, a minimalist can avoid various kinds of difficulties. Minimalists don't rush for trendy things because they can differentiate between what is their necessity and what is their desire. And that characteristic is one of the most important characteristics of a Minimalist.
Nowadays people like to imitate one another. Whenever people see others buying some attractive things, they also go for it. Whenever people see others enjoying their time in a way, they also try to enjoy their time how others enjoy it. In a word, people try to follow the lifestyles of others because they think it's the ideal lifestyle for them. In most cases, it has been seen that people try to follow the lifestyle of rich people. The lifestyle of rich people is not a problem for those who are rich but it's really difficult to bear the expenses who come from a poor or middle-class family because they don't have enough backup funds like the rich people. It's impossible for poor or middle-class people to do everything like rich people. So people choose some selective things from the rich people's lifestyle
One of the most followed things is the Smartphone. In recent times the hype of the expensive smartphone of iPhone, Samsung, and other brands is very high. If one new phone launches then people go to pursue it as fast as possible. They are ready to pay the high price for it. I don't know why people need to use a smartphone at the very beginning time because of what they need to pay extra. Every time it has been seen that after 20/25 days the price of a newly launched smartphone came to its actual price from high price. I think people need to wait for a reasonable price. Why do they pay extra?
It was okay till the rich people doing it but it's a matter of surprise that general people also doing the same thing. In the case of the very high and expensive smartphone of iPhone or Samsung brand, many people try to buy it because several kinds of good features exist there. But for a normal person, what is the purpose of buying an expensive smartphone? I am talking about my country's people. According to local statistics in our city, it has been seen that the kids of poor or middle-class families use the most expensive smartphones more than kids of rich families. It's a matter of surprise that those kids got the expensive smartphones by blackmailing their parents. Blackmailing means stopping taking food, not coming home, making parents afraid of suicide, etc., etc.
To be honest, except for some specific people, no one needs to use expensive smartphones for their activities and work. People can buy a budget-friendly smartphone and using that smartphone they can do all the things which they are doing in an expensive smartphone. Some people need to face huge difficulties for several months to buy an expensive smartphone and some people don't hesitate to take loans for it also.
It's not a problem for rich people but almost everyone is going for it and the most possible reason can be to show off nothing more than it. As a minimalist, I feel that almost every person is expensing more for smartphones rather than buying them at a reasonable price. I feel that people should need to follow a simple way of buying a budget-friendly smartphone and save the meaning money from wasting.

I guess I must be some sort of minimalist lmao.. I've been using my 'hand me down' phone for years now and I love it. It's fast, does everything I need it to do, takes clear photos and has lots of space. What more do I want? Best part.. it was free haha. Thanks for the dope post my friend.

I think you're most definitely right. There's a lot of ostentatious living followed by smartphones purchase. It's quite amusing to be honest but that's just how it is. People deciding to choose vanity over efficiency these days.
I don't know with a hungry stomach what is the benefit of showing others a fancy lifestyle? I think they are one kind of mentally sick because they actually don't know what is there needs and what is their desire.
Whatever, each person will suffer the consequences of their decision.

I am not against buying expensive smartphones. If anyone is capable or need it then it's okay but in recent time people buy expensive ones mostly for show-off. I don't feel except for rich people others need to avoid buying expensive smartphones unless it's necessary.

This right here is a very touchy topic for quite a lot of people and it sometimes looks like you're not used to new trends when you try to talk to people about these things.
Of course I love a good gadget, but I'm not big on changing smartphones. I'd rather change my PC which only comes up whenever I need functionality and its slowing down my work. This rarely happens as you don't really need to even change your PC as often as your smartphones and I've had my phone for about three years now.
I know it's a touch it topic but no one can change the reality. I am also person of this generation and I know that trend well but every trend should not be followed. I think all the foolish people follow the trend blindly. If an expensive smartphone is necessary for me then I will buy it but why I will buy it if it's not necessarily for me while I can do better think with that asset like you said changing PC can be a options also.
Seeing kids whom I'm aware of the parents financial status, using a higher brand of smartphone than myself baffles me a lot.
Everyone wants to be like that handsome guy or pretty girl they saw on the media, willing to push their needs to a corner just to live that lifestyle that might cause them a fortune and probably regret in the future.

I know a person who bought an iPhone and she was not aware of nearly 75% of the phone functions, then I wonder why can't she just settle for a phone she can operate which will probably be at a lesser price with less sophisticated functions and features but due to peer pressure she decided to buy the phone to feel among which is quite tragic.

There is a lot of reason in what you say, Social networks like TikTok, for example, show a lot of this fictitious panorama of people eating in expensive restaurants and wearing luxury clothes, but they do not say what is behind it, what these people have to do to live and users want to imitate that lifestyle.

I also think social media plays a great role in influencing people. I feel that most of the things on social media are fake and don't show the real story. It's the reason I am not so active on social media because everyone is focused on something that is not real. A minimalist should not go for such kinds of things.
