The Things I Declutter Before 2023

Welcoming 2023

DSC00149.JPG

In just a few weeks, we are to welcome 2023. I am not sure how it will be but we all can hope that there would be nothing extreme going on. This decluttering is something I already did a year ago where I declutter some aspects of my life, digital clutter, my non-digital things, and my occasional impulsive shopping habit. In retrospect, this year I did pretty awesome with clutter. I did not really shop a lot because I was moving half of the year. Instead of things, my life this year has been full of memorable experiences that I think were better than my previous year. I am also happy that this year I made new connections and my overall outlook on my life has been more positive than previous years. However, just like last year, I intend to do some cleaning up here and there. Maybe this will be an inspiration for you as well!

The Digital Clutter

DSC00140.JPG

If last year my social media consumption was on an unhealthy level, this year I managed to curb everything. I am not active anywhere except twitter and on hive. If friends or people I know want to contact me, they can do so, through my personal line. I still use social media but strictly for trend researching and staying up-to-date with the latest tech trends or things that I like. I am proud to say, I have successfully changed my social media habit. However, my biggest clutter this year would be subscriptions. There are a few online subscriptions that I have to let go. Additionally, some apps that I no longer use have to be uninstalled. These days, there's an app for everything but there are only a few that I actually use all the time or often. So, that's a part of my digital clutter that I am doing before the year ends. Another big thing this year is that since I took up photography, I have so many images that I have not sorted out. I am currently trying to remove them and only keep a few that are memorable to me.

The Physical Items

DSC00124.JPG

There aren't that many physical items that I purchased this year. If I purchase something, it's often because it was a necessary replacement. However, there are some things from inside my room that were from 2020 and 2021 that needed to be let go. Since last year, I have already downsized many things in my room however there are things like bags from delivery that are piling up. I plan on giving it away to my neighbor because like last year, they like receiving those bags.

Fashion Items and Personal Care

DSC00147.JPG

One thing that I like to buy from time to time is dress/fashion items. This year because I was traveling, I ended up getting some souvenirs here and there. They aren't something to let go, rather they will stay and my old clothings will have to go. Another thing that I also declutter is makeup, medicine and skin care that are about to expire next year. I can be quite forgetful at times that sometimes I bought double items for the things that actually shouldn't. There is also medicine that I bought back in 2022 that needs to be thrown away.

Bonus, there are things that I probably will stop purchasing in 2023.

Backpack and delivery food!

DSC00153.JPG

I am so obsessed about finding the greatest backpack for a nomad. I experimented with a few backpacks in the hope that I would fit my life into just one tiny bag. Eventually, I gave away my backpack to my cousin or my family who needed it. Having finally found my ultimate backpack by Eiger, I vow to myself that I will stop purchasing a backpack and experimenting with it. Eiger is a great product and given the price, they can last me a couple of years before I will need a replacement. I got myself a 30L that certainly will fit my life at least for a month.

Another thing that I vow to stop purchasing is unnecessary delivery food. If I can go to the place, I find that it is much cheaper doing so. Obviously with some inconveniences that I have to go outside. At this point in life though, I am totally comfortable going outside much more than I did in the last couple of years. I don't have to prepare myself mentally just to go outside, I can just go and not give a fuck. It might surprise you given that I love traveling but I have come to terms that It's fine going outside and dressing however I like.

I hope this will inspire you to start decluterring before 2023!

Sort:

I absolutely love that you include unused apps and subscriptions in your digital clutter, it can get way out of hand if not managed and it's a good one I need to declutter too.

Photos. Oh boy, now you're talking. I need to sort through mine as well and delete duplicates, it's a long process though and that's probably why I have been putting it off for so long.

All the power to you, I'm glad you had a better year and curbed your social media, it can waste so much time and not in a productive way.

I don't really like clutter on my phone which is why, I included that 😊. Good luck on decluttering your picture, I know it can be quite overwhelming going through them.

It's a great habit to get into. I once decluttered my subscriptions on my email. It took me a whole day but afterwards I felt so much lighter and happier and I haven't missed even one of those subscriptions so just goes to show.

Photos however are the worst for me, my filing system is so chaotic and rather hit and miss, but it's better than no filing system at all 🤣

Have a great day

That is a good decluttering though. Especially when you see yourself as not improving or developing because it is hindered by some of your unnecessary activities. I socialize less in some socmed, and focus in Hive and Twitter as well. Delivery foods should be lessened if you can cook for yourself at home.
!PIZZA

I don't really have kitchen at my place. So, it's been difficult to cook but when I was living with my parents, I cook a lot 😄

🍕 PIZZA !

What's up in that first photo? Is that an alovera? That plant is awesome for health.

...I plan on giving it away to my neighbor because like last year, they like receiving those bags.

Well, it's good you don't just discard some items you no longer need but giving it to your neighbors who are in need of it. That's kind of you.

That's not Aloe but it's called Haworthia succulents. They are native to South Africa. Fun fact, I actually got them just two days ago. They don't bloom though but it's nice to have them around.

Oh, okay, got it now.

This year, my digital consumption is so unhealthy 😂. So next year, I wish to lessen it

Good luck! it's not easy but you'll get there.

So nice, seeing the way you want to start on the year 2023, it great I will say, because not all things we do this year should be taken into the new year. When we know some has no value anymore.
And one must do the things that give the happiness we deserve.
Thank you for saying this @macchiata

Sometimes we just have to let go things that don't bring value into our life.

I like how you clear digital clutter. This just reminded me to cancel subscriptions I don't use.

I did a wardrobe declutter recently, I got 2 large shopping bags full of clothes, I didn't even know I had that much stuff I wasn't using.

😅 it's nice cleaning up before the year ends. Also maybe you make room for something new next year!

A great way to start the year...
decluttering makes the mind relax and in ease.
Maybe Mary Kondo's tips on how to declutter could help you it better and more efficiently.

I follow her tips here and there. I like how she fold things too 😃

That's how I fold my clothes now! :D

Yeah! it's life changing and space saving too :D

I free up space on my phone every Sunday because during the week, I download lots of PDFs which of course were needed for some school assignment or just to enhance knowledge and whenever I'm done with em I forget to delete and somehow they take up space but recently I turned on an every Sunday reminder just so I could delete those unused apps or document.
Really enjoyed reading this.

That's awesome if you can do that on a weekly basis. I mostly have those reminders for my e-mail as I like to free it up from newsletter and such.

That's awesome if you can do that on a weekly basis.

Yep! It is😌

Organized things means organized life. Let go of the old to have space also for the new. New things or new plans which is which, it has a big impact. It feels like you accomplished something, something that makes you happier.

That's true! freeing up space to make room for something new.

Ahh, 2022 is about to end, what happened to this year? Well done on digital decluttering. Unsubscribing online and sorting through duplicate photos and redundant documents on the computer is a herculean task. I think I'd need to spare some time daily for the cleanup. Thank you for this inspiring reminder.

I know right!!! time goes quickly and there were so many things I did in this year that I want to relive again. I hope you'll remember to do some clean up and making space for next year 😊

I am adding it now to my to-do list as a reminder😊 Have a lovely day ahead!

I am personally excited that 2022 will be ended, I had so much loss this year and I do wish that next year will be filled with some changes, also next year will be the start of something great for myself, me too this year I only made five posts in my social media which really great staying out from toxicity, better post picture to Hive, than Facebook whos filled with native peoples. Advance happy new year Mac.

It's been ages since I was on Facebook. I can't remember anymore how to use it or how it looks like haha. Hive has been my online presence and journal for 5 years now and I hope it continues to be that way forever😄. Thank you!

Every time I see digital clutter/decluttering, I know I'm guilty as charged!
I think maybe if I do so slowly and regularly I will get somewhere with it. This is a gentle reminder:)

😂 It's physical items that I am so guilty of. I think I should do them more often instead waiting for seasonal or even end year. Good luck decluttering too 😊
