Hello everyone, I hope you are well. Today, as you'll have understood, I'm taking you through the chronological development of the birth of this flower that I love among all. For someone who loves nature, it is very difficult to choose one element more than another since the very principle of life is diversity. However, if I had to keep only one flower, it would be a calendula. It is a plant that is robust and delicate at the same time, it is beautiful and simple, edible and has many healing and medicinal properties. But that's not entirely what I want to focus on today. A simple visit to the Internet will allow you to find these and other uses.
I think it is quite divine to observe every day, hour by hour, the evolution of an organism as complex and simple as a flower. Because here we will talk and I will give you to see the flowering. Even if I also have some archives of their emergence from the ground...
This is what it was like on 8 November of the previous year. As is often the case, I'm either too early or too late, and in this case, I must simply say that I was impatient !
However, the plants grew throughout the winter, they stood up to a few frosts which simply destroyed the nasturtiums that I had been foolish enough to sow at the same time.
In retrospect, I regret not having taken more pictures of the different stages of growth, if only for my archives and of course to share them with you.
Just a final photographic note before I go through the different stages of flowering, apart from the two images above, all of the following were taken with my Nikon D5500 camera and a Sigma 17-70mm lens which is fine for doing a bit of different types of images, but I don't think I would necessarily recommend it for macro images. Even though it is supposedly suitable for this feature. Having said that, let's start our time travel.
These are the first days. We will see a little further on the buttons when they are still closed. I must say that this long term reportage was also a very good exercise in photography as I concentrated on the same subject which certainly evolved, but whose environment was not the same either. I am thinking especially of the light here and the different weather conditions, wind, rain, but especially from the point of view of luminosity of course !
Here are the two days that followed. It's quite funny how as it metamorphosed, the little calendula bud and petals tended to close up at times, as if it was retracting to pick up and keep some strength for the growth bursts to come.
This is it, the beginning of the blooming. I say this for the sake of it, but for this picture I had to do a lot of retouching to make it fit in with the others. To give you an idea, the leaves were a very special red-green !
The flowering is in full swing and nothing can stop it now !
The funny thing is that out of all my little calendula bush, only one flower came out well ahead of time, and at the time of writing this one is still the only one. In the end, I think that this pioneer will have played the role of scout, just long enough to confirm to the others that they can come out in their turn.
The blossoming continues during the sunnier hours of the afternoon. I play with the apertures and exposure times and take a lot of images, not far from 1000 for the whole project. For some this may not seem like much, but it's already a lot for a single flower !
Every evening, the calendula closes and its petals close together. This is of course something I have seen happen to flowers in general in nature, but it is also something else to see it in your window.
After a good shower, the sun is back but it is a challenge to get as close as I would like to capture those little drops on the petals.
And here is the last stage from yesterday. We can therefore assume that the blossoming will continue, and what a pleasure it is to admire this orange wheel on this green background !
As expected, here are the buds of the future flowers to come. These ones alone are infinitely delicate, aren't they ?

Bonjour à tous, j'espère que vous allez bien. Aujourd'hui, comme vous l'aurez compris, je vous emmène dans le déroulé chronologique de la naissance de cette fleur que j'affectionne entre toutes. Pour quelqu'un qui aime la Nature, il est bien difficile de choisir un élément plus qu'un autre puisque le principe même de la vie, c'est justement la diversité. Pourtant, si je ne devais garder qu'une seule fleur, ce serait une calendula. C'est une plante qui est robuste et délicate à la fois, elle est belle et simple, comestible et possède de nombreuses vertus curatives et médicinales. Mais ce n'est pas totalement sur cela que je voudrais insister aujourd'hui. Une simple visite sur Internet vous permettra de trouver ces vertus et autres usages.
Je trouve qu'il est assez divin d'observer chaque jour, d'heure en heure, l'évolution un organisme aussi complexe et simple à la fois qu'une fleur. Car ici, nous parlerons et je vous donnerais surtout à voir la floraison. Même si j'ai quelques archives aussi de leurs sorties de terre...
Voilà ce qu'il en était à la date du 8 novembre de l'année précédente. Comme souvent, je suis soi trop en avance, soi en retard et là, je dois simplement dire que je devais être impatient !
Pour autant, les plantes ont poussé durant tout l'hiver, elles ont tenu bon à quelques épisodes de gel qui on tout bonnement terrassées les capucines que j'avais eu la folie de semer en même temps.
Rétrospectivement, je regrette de ne pas avoir pris davantage d'images des différentes étapes de croissance, ne serait-ce que pour mes archives et bien-sûr pour les partager avec vous.
Juste une dernière précision d'ordre photographique avant de cheminer dans les différentes étapes de la floraison, hormis les deux images du dessus, toutes celles qui suivent ont été réalisées avec mon appareil Nikon D5500 et un objectif Sigma 17-70mm qui est très bien pour faire un peu de différents types d'images, mais je crois que je ne le recommanderai pas forcément pour des images macro. Même si il est soi-disant indiqué pour cette fonctionnalité. Ceci étant dit, commençons notre voyage dans le temps.
Voilà les premier jours. Nous verrons un peu plus loin les boutons lorsqu'il sont encore fermés. Je dois dire que ce reportage sur le long terme aura aussi été un très bon exercice de photographie comme je me suis concentré sur le même sujet qui certes évoluait, mais dont l'environnement n'était pas le même non plus. Je pense surtout à la lumière ici et au différentes conditions météorologiques, le vent, la pluie, mais surtout au point de vue de la luminosité bien évidemment !
Voilà les deux jours qui ont suivis. C'est assez drôle comme au fur et à mesure de sa métamorphose, le petit bouton de calendula et ses pétales tendaient à se refermer par moment, comme s'il se rétractait pour prendre et garder un peu de vigueur pour les poussées de croissance à venir.
Ça y est, voilà le commencement de l'éclosion. Je le dis par acquis de conscience mais pour cette image, j'ai du faire pas mal de retouche pour l'harmoniser avec les autres. Pour vous donner une idée, les feuilles étaient d'un rouge-vert tout à fait spécial !
La floraison est en plein boom et plus rien ne pourra l'arrêter dorénavant !
Ce qui est amusant, c'est que sur tout mon petit buisson de calendula, une seule fleur est sortie avec bien 20 jours d'avance et au moment où je vous écris, celle-ci est toujours la seule. Au final, je pense que cette pionnière aura joué le rôle d'éclaireur, juste le temps de confirmer aux autres qu'elles pouvaient sortir à leur tour.
L'épanouissement continue au gré des heures plus ensoleillées de l'après-midi. Je joue avec les ouvertures de focales et les temps d'expositions et je prends énormément d'images, pas loin de 1000 pour tout le projet. Pour certains cela semblera peu mais c'est déjà beaucoup pour une seule et unique fleur !
Tous les soirs, la calendula se referme et ses pétales se resserrent les uns sur les autres. C'est bien sûr quelques choses que j'avais pu constater chez les fleurs en général dans la nature, mais c'est aussi autre chose d'observer cela à sa fenêtre.
Après une bonne averse, le soleil est de retour mais c'est une gageure de réussir à m'approcher aussi près que je le souhaiterai pour capturer ces petites gouttes sur les pétales.
Et voilà pour finir le dernier stade qui date d'hier seulement. On peut donc présumer que l'épanouissement va encore se poursuivre, et quel plaisir d'admirer cette roue orange sur ce fond d'un vert soutenu !
Comme prévu, voilà les boutons des futures fleurs à venir. Rien que ceux-là sont déjà infiniment délicats, non ?

you might want to try time lapse software and make sure the camera is always in same position , but not bad for a first attempt

Calendulas are such pretty and quite useful flowers! I like your animation, that's cool. Ours seem to bloom and "self-seed" to come back, year after year; the all originate with seeds put in 12 years ago!
