Waterfall - New Athos: Ruins - visual history (21 photos)

Leaving alone the ancient ruins, we will refresh ourselves with a waterfall. This will be the beginning of the story about the wonderful mountain river Psirtskha. It was on it a couple of centuries ago that the monks of the New Athos Monastery erected a waterfall with their own hands. This place still attracts guests of the city like a magnet. In the heat, you can find coolness here, if you are hungry, you can taste the local cuisine here and in any case you will admire this beauty.

If you are patient and persistent, the most interesting things await you in the middle and at the end of the post.

That time it was warm in the southern way, but very damp. There was a lot of rain and only occasionally the sun came out to check if everyone was wet. We weren't counting on rain and had to buy cellophane capes. Of course, in such weather, many sit at home, but we were not driving for a thousand miles for this.

Оставив в покое древние руины мы освежимся водопадом. Это будет началом истории про замечательную горную речку Псырцху. Именно на ней пару веков назад монахи Новоафонского монастыря возвели своими руками водопад. Это место до сих пор как магнитом притягивает к себе гостей города. В жару здесь можно найти прохладу, если ты голоден, то можешь отведать здесь местной кухни и в любом случае ты будешь любоваться этой красотой.

Если вы будете терпеливы и настойчивы, самое интересное вас ожидает в середине и конце поста.

В тот раз было по-южному тепло, но очень сыро. Было много дождя и лишь изредка выглядывало солнце, чтобы проверить, все ли промокли. Мы не рассчитывали на дождь и нам пришлось купить целлофановые накидки. Конечно, в такую погоду многие сидят дома, но мы не за этим тыщщу вёрст ехали.

I will not dissemble and argue that these views greatly inspired us. But we never dreamed of spending one of our vacation days under the roof of someone else's house. We went to the city center and as we got closer it became more and more fun.

Не буду лукавить и утверждать, что эти виды нас сильно вдохновляли. Но провести один из дней отпуска под крышей чужого дома нам совсем не мечталось. Мы отправились в центр города и по мере нашего приближения туда становилось всё веселее.

And here is the river Psyrtskha. This is her section from the waterfall to the park. Couldn't walk past a beautiful hotel on the beach and not have a cup of coffee to warm up.

А вот и река Псырцха. Это её участок от водопада до парка. Не могли пройти мимо красивого отеля на берегу и не выпить чашечку кофе для согрева.

The temple of Simon the Canonite is located very close to the waterfall. According to legend, this is one of the apostles of Jesus. He lived in a mountain cave and was executed on the banks of this river. But we will return to this story later, when we go upstream. Now we are more interested in the waterfall.

Совсем рядом с водопадом расположен храм Симона Канонита. По преданию это один из апостолов Иисуса. Он жил в горной пещере и был казнён на берегу этой реки. Но к этой истории мы вернёмся позже, когда пойдём вверх по течению. Сейчас нас больше интересует водопад.

Nearby, in addition to the rain, you will be doused with a shower from the spray of the waterfall itself. It's not great for the camera. And we took a little shelter from all this water under the roof of the building. From there, no less beautiful views open up.

Вблизи помимо дождя вас обдаёт душ из брызг самого водопада. Это не очень здорово для камеры. И мы немного укрылись од всей этой воды под крышей здания. Оттуда открываются не менее красивые виды .

In addition to the main cascade, the adjacent territory also has beautiful elements that create a general atmosphere of comfort and celebration. Stone and wood products, plants, small reservoirs.

Помимо главного каскада прилегающая территория тоже имеет красивые элементы, которые создают общую атмосферу уюта и праздника. Изделия из камня и дерева, растения, небольшие водоёмчики.

Of course, we went upstairs and moved on. At every step something new is revealed and it all has its own history. I don't want to overload this post with photos, there are already a lot of them. Perhaps we will even return to this place sometimes on other days and you can compare.

The beginning and continuation of our visual history

In the beginning, we just stopped in this wonderful town and walked to the city park with palm trees and swans in the ponds.

We could not help but visit the New Athos Monastery and admire its beauty and grandeur.

Further, our path lay deep in this very mountain, into the famous New Athos caves.

Finally we climbed a small plateau at the top of the mountain..

We examined the ruins of an ancient fortress and admired the beautiful views from above

Finally, they examined the remains of the temple and descended from the mountain.
