Hello HIVEs!
Last week published a post here about the apps I use to plan my pictures. It struck me that there was still some unreleased material slumbering in my archive. In the past, I traveled a lot for work. I always carry a small camera and some equipment for light painting with me in a small photo backpack on my travels. The landscapes in southern Siberia left a special impression on me. Of course I also brought home some light painting pictures from there.
Letzte Woche veröffentlichte hier einen Beitrag über die Apps, die bei der Planung meiner Bilder zum Einsatz kommen. Dabei fiel mir auf, dass noch einiges an unveröffentlichten Material in meinem Archiv schlummert. In der Vergangenheit war ich beruflich sehr viel unterwegs. Eine kleine Kamera und etwas Equipment zum Lightpainten führe ich auf meinen Reisen immer in einem kleinen Foto-Rucksack mit. Einen besonderen Eindruck hinterließen die Landschaften in Süd-Sibirien auf mich. Natürlich brachte ich auch von dort einige Lightpainting Bilder mit nach Hause.

In the cover picture you can see a jetty in Lake Teletsk. The set was very simple. A KLARUS XT11GT with an orange filter was attached to a ribbon and lowered into the water to draw a line. For the Orb, a light blade was covered with three different colored gels. One side orange, one side turquoise-blue and purple at the top. As the blade rose and fell, only one of the three color became visible to the camera. In the picture below I show the tools used.
Im Titelbild seht ihr einen Steg im Telezker See. Das Set war denkbar einfach. Eine KLARUS XT11GT mit orangem Filter wurde an einem Band befestigt, in das Wasser gelassen, um damit eine Linie zu ziehen. Für den Orb wurde ein Light-Blade mit drei verschiedenen Farbfolien beklebt. Eine Seite Orange, eine Seite Türkis-Blau und an der Spitze Violett. Durch das Heben und Senken des Blades wurde für die Kamera je eine Farbe sichtbar. Im Bild unten zeige ich die verwendeten Tools.

Actually, I wanted to shoot photos of the Milky Way in Artybash. That's why we drove to this deserted place. Unfortunately, a few clouds in the sky disturbed the first evening. Something happens all time. 🙄 In the picture above, I used a KLARUS XT11GT with an orange filter to illuminate the bottom of the bank. The water in Teletsk Lake is so clear that the depth of visibility is up to 15m. Of course, drinking the water is also not a problem. 😊 Purest nature!
Eigentlich wollte ich in Artybash Fotos von der Milchstrasse schießen. Dafür sind wir ja extra an diesen verlassenen Ort gefahren. Leider störten am ersten Abend ein paar Wolken am Himmel. Irgendwas ist ja immer. 🙄 Im Bild oben beleuchtete ich mit einer KLARUS XT11GT mit orangenem Filter den Grund des Ufers. Das Wasser im Telezker See ist so klar, dass die Sichttiefe bis zu 15m beträgt. Natürlich ist es auch kein Problem, das Wasser zu trinken. 😊 Reinste Natur!

During the twilight it looked like we were going to have a starry night. Unfortunately, the sky grew more and more overcast. I used the time for a few freestyle exercises with the light blade.
Während der Dämmerung sah es noch ganz so aus, als bekämen wir eine sternenklare Nacht. Leider zog sich der Himmel mehr und mehr zu. Ich nutzte die Zeit für ein paar Freestyle Übungen mit dem dem Light-Blade.
The Tools
As already mentioned above, the equipment was limited to two tools. The KLARUS XT11GT was used here because it is waterproof and has a screw cap that enables a quick filter change without additional attachments. You can make the filters for the lamp yourself quickly and cheaply. I use a punch and
color gel.
(picture above) Important! The film should be at least 0.3mm thick, otherwise the film cannot be punched.
Wie bereits oben erwähnt, hielt sich der Aufwand in Grenzen und beschränkte sich auf zwei Tools. Die KLARUS XT11GT wurde hier eingesetzt, weil sie wasserdicht ist und eine Schraubkappe besitzt, die einen schnellen Filterwechsel ohne zusätzliche Aufsätze ermöglicht. Die Filter für die Lampe kann man schnell und günstig selbst herstellen. Ich verwende hierfür eine Stanze und
Farbfilterfolie . (Bild oben)
Wichtig! Die Folie sollte mindestens 0,3mm dick sein, sonst läßt sich die Folie nicht stanzen.

In addition, I used a homemade blade. I covered this with different colored foils to create the multicolored orb. A drain pipe serves as an adapter
rubber reduction.. (picture below)
The blade itself is easy to replicate: I cut a rectangular shape out of acrylic glass. I slit a 10cm piece of drain pipe with a saw. Then I put the blade in the tube and fixed everything with gaffa tape. See picture below (with another blade).
Zusätzlich verwendete ich ein Eigenbau-Blade. Dieses hatte ich mit verschiedenen Farbfolien beklebt, um den mehrfarbigen Orb zu kreieren. Als Adapter dient ein Abflussrohr mit
Gummireduzierung. (Bild unten)
Das Blade selbst läßt sich einfach nachbauen: Eine rechteckige Form schnitt ich aus Acrylglas. Ein 10cm Stück Abflussrohr schlitzte ich mit einer Säge ein. Dann steckte ich das Blade in das Rohr und fixierte alles mit Gaffa Tape. Sie Bild unten (mit einem anderen Blade).

The next evening it worked. The clouds stayed away and the starry sky spread out over us. Overwhelming! Victor sat down on the jetty and we could get started. Victor alone in the universe. Unfortunately I couldn't get closer to Victor with the camera because of the water. But this is how the picture shows us how small and insignificant we homo sapiens are in this universe.😉
Am nächsten Abend klappte es dann doch noch. Die Wolken blieben weg und der Sternenhimmel breitete sich über uns aus. Überwältigend! Victor setzte sich auf den Steg und wir konnten loslegen. Victor allein im Universum. Leider konnte ich wegen des Wassers mit der Kamera nicht näher an Victor ran. Aber so zeigt uns das Bild, wie klein und unbedeutend wir Homo Sapiens in diesem Universum sind.😉

Model Victor
The Location
Teletsk Lake is located in the Altai Mountains in Russia. It is about 78 km long and with a depth of more than 340 meters it is the fourth deepest lake in Russia. In the picture above you can see a beautiful bathing beach in midsummer. It is empty. And that's for a reason. The water temperature is a maximum of 12°C even in midsummer! I take a cold shower in the morning, a bad habit I've been practicing since my early youth. But swimming in this lake was almost impossible for me. After a few meters in the deep water I turned around because I was afraid of cramping. The lake is definitely not for wimps! But a very nice location.
Der Telezker See liegt im Altaigebirge in Russland. Er ist ca. 78 km lang und mit seinen mehr als 340 Meter Tiefe der vierttiefste See Russlands. Im Bild oben seht ihr einen wunderschönen Badestrand im Hochsommer. Er ist leer. Und das hat einen Grund. Die Wassertemperatur beträgt selbst im Hochsommer höchstens 12°C! Ich dusche mich morgens kalt, eine Unsitte, die ich seit meiner frühen Jugend betreibe. In diesem See zu schwimmen war für mich aber fast unmöglich. Nach wenigen Metern im tiefen Wasser drehte ich um, weil ich Angst hatte zu verkrampfen. Der See ist mit Sicherheit nichts für Warmduscher! Aber sehr schön gelegen.
About 70 rivers flow into the lake. Often as a waterfall. I don't remember how many waterfalls I saw there. The landscape is just stunningly beautiful. If you're lucky, you might see a bear or a lynx. Unfortunately, I wasn't among the lucky ones.
Ungefähr 70 Flüsse münden in dem See. Oft als Wasserfall. Ich erinnere mich nicht mehr wieviele Wasserfälle ich dort gesehen habe. Die Landschaft ist einfach umwerfend schön. Mit viel Glück bekommt man einen Bären oder Luchs zu sehen. Leider war ich nicht unter den Glücklichen.
We drove 250km from Artybash to Chemal by car. There is a small island called Patmos on the Katun River. The suspension bridge leads to the monastery of Ioan Bogoslov with a small chapel.
Mit dem Auto fuhren wir 250km von Artybash nach Tschemal. Dort befindet sich eine kleine Insel namens Patmos auf dem Fluss Katun. Über die Hängebrücke gelangt man zum Kloster Ioan Bogoslov mit einer kleinen Kapelle.
On the way back in the evening we went to the Devil's Finger (Palez Rock), a rock near the capital of the Altai Republic, Gorno-Altaysk. From there we had a fantastic view over the vastness of Siberia. Actually, I had planned to do a light painting on this rock.
However, a few facts spoke against it:
First, dark storm clouds gathered. Not a good idea to stand on the highest point during a thunderstorm.
Our taxi driver would never have been able to drive his front-wheel drive, old Nissan safely up the ridge again in the wet and in the dark. That was quite an adventure on a dry road.
But the decisive sign of fate gave me a snake that wanted to make it comfortable under my Lightblade. Then, as I lifted the blade, it shot into a hole between my legs, right where I was about to begin my performance. Halys adders are nocturnal, use infrared sensors to find their prey, and are poisonous! A good reason to avoid this place at night. I'm not part of the loot scheme, but next time I might have grabbed the snake instead of the lamp. It doesn't have to be 😑. I broke off at this point and we drove back to the hotel.
Auf dem Rückweg am Abend ging es dann zum Teufelsfinger (Palez-Felsen), einen Felsen in der nähe der Hauptstadt der Republik Altai, Gorno-Altaisk. Von dort hatten wir einen phantastischen Ausblick über die Weiten Sibiriens. Eigentlich hatte ich vor, an diesem Felsen ein Lightpainting zu performen.
Allerdings sprachen ein paar Fakten dagegen:
Zuerst zogen dunkle Gewitterwolken auf. Keine Gute Idee während eines Gewitters auf dem höchsten Punkt zu stehen.
Unser Taxifahrer hätte bei Nässe und Dunkelheit seinen frontgetriebenen, alten Nissan nie auf dem Gebirgsgrad sicher zurück fahren können. Das war auf dem trockenen Weg schon ein Abenteuer.
Aber den entscheidenen Wink des Schicksals gab mir eine Schlange, die es sich unter meinem Lightblade bequem machen wollte. Beim Anheben des Blades schoss sie zwischen meinen Beinen dann genau dort in einem Loch, wo ich meine Performance starten wollte. Halysottern sind nachtaktiv, finden ihre Beute mit Infrarotsensoren und sind giftig! Ein guter Grund diesen Ort nachts zu meiden. Ich gehöre zwar nicht zum Beuteschema, aber das nächste mal hätte ich vielleicht die Schlange und nicht die Lampe gegriffen. Es sollte nicht sein😑. Ich brach an dieser Stelle ab und wir fuhren zurück ins Hotel.

Guten Morgen Ralf, da haste aber wieder einen tollen Beitrag, mit beeindruckenden Bildern. Schön wenn man so viel rum kommt und erlebt. Die Landschaften, die du da besucht hast, sind sehr schön. Da würde ich ja auch gerne mal die ein oder andere Nacht vebringen. 🤓
Danke Stefan! Ja, eine Reise in die Altai-Region kann ich dir wärmstens empfehlen. Allerdings ist es Nachts nicht ganz ungefährlich. Ich war jedenfalls etwas schockiert, fast in eine Schlange zu greifen. Das kann nach einem Biss fifty/fifty ausgehen. Wer rechnet schon in Sibirien damit...
Oha na damit hätte ich jetzt auch nicht wirklich gerechnet.
