The world's largest gathering of street rods rolled into town this week. From Thursday until Sunday, over ten thousand of the machines were here for the NSRA's annual Street Rod Nationals.
You can always tell when it's that time of year by the way parking lots start sprouting classic cars with 'For Sale' signs.
Headed over to the fairgrounds to see if I could catch the last of the vroom vroom.
It's twenty bucks a head for admission to the Street Rod Nationals, but the poor man's version, posting up on Phillips Lane and watching all the cars cruising, is free.
Friday and Saturday evening there's usually a crowd lining the sides of the street, and many of the rodders cruise and do the occasional burnout. This year I didn't make it until Sunday, just a couple hours before the shindig ended.
While there was less going on by that point, the was still plenty to see. Plus, there's nothing like pointing a camera at people to get them to perform.
Lot less folks were watching today, so it was almost like my own personal hydraulics demonstration when this truck started showing what all it could do.
Wasn't sure what this guy was trying to do when he come jogging down the expressway on-ramp. Aside from being brave, that expressway is notorious for the big Altima energy of its drivers. He eventually picked up a piece of what looked like sheet metal or trim from the middle lane.
Does it get more wholesome and heartwarming than seeing a man and his traffic cone out for a Sunday afternoon cruise?
If you could ignore the scorching sun glaring down, it was a lovely day for some horsepower play.
Would it even count as a car show if someone wasn't having mechanical misfortunes?
