Hello everybody! At the moment I am on a trip to my family and friends. Today I visited the city of Orsha, which is located in the Vitebsk region of Belarus. Spent only one day here but was introduced to local attractions and history. Since today is a day off, this is a great opportunity to share your impressions.
Above in the photo is a water mill built in 1902, although it is more often called Mlyn (mill). As far as I understand, now the wheel of the mill does not always turn, and the building itself is an ethnographic museum. I didn’t manage to stay inside, but according to the reviews, it’s interesting if you are interested in history.
There is such an atmospheric bridge behind the mill. It complements the small ensemble and serves two purposes - for its intended purpose and a small tourist attraction. Behind the bridge, the river continues on its way.
And this is located in front of the mill and also has several functions. Firstly, it is a functional structure that "sends" to the underground drain passing under the mill. Also, judging by the number of castles, this place is popular among couples in love.
In the center of the city there is a small mound, which symbolically hints at the history of the city. The year 1067 is associated with the founding of Orsha. This year the famous, in the Belarusian history, Polotsk prince Vseslav the Charodey was captured by enemies and sent into captivity. In the tale of bygone years, this event is closely intertwined with the mention of the city.
One way or another, but the city center can be called a historical place. The concentration of attractions in this place is maximum. It is very convenient, as a tourist does not have to walk a lot to see the most interesting things.
Among the local Jesuit collegium is considered one of the main attractions of the city. The photo does not convey the scale, but I assure you this ensemble of white buildings is striking from afar.
Unfortunately, I was limited in time and could not get a closer look at every attraction. In addition, despite the fact that the city is small, the concentration of history is great there. Although mostly associated with religion.
If you are without a car, then most often your journey begins and ends at the train station. In my case, it was. And the station is also a kind of attraction. It is interesting that the Orsha railway station has two sides - north and south. Some people get confused about directions. My short trip was as productive as possible, although I didn't see much. I had to hit the road ...
