Hey Hive Family
let us travel the world again
and collect great pictures
today Ludwigshafen

The ugliest city in Germany

Today I travel close to Mannheim, south of Frankfurt in the middle of Germany.

Ludwigshafen, often dubbed Germany's "less glamorous" urban spectacle, is a city that defies conventional beauty with its unique charm. Nestled on the Rhine river's west bank, it's the birthplace of the chemical giant BASF and a hub for industrial innovation. This city is a testament to Germany's post-war reconstruction and economic resurgence.

While Ludwigshafen might lack the quaint cobblestone streets or medieval architecture found in other German towns, it compensates with a raw, unpolished authenticity. It's a place where industrial might blends with urban life, creating a landscape that's intriguingly rugged. The city's skyline, dominated by factory towers and cranes, tells a story of hard work and resilience.

Ludwigshafen is also a cultural melting pot, with a diverse population adding vibrant colors to its industrial canvas. From bustling markets offering a variety of global cuisines to cultural festivals that light up the city, there's an unexpected vibrancy here.

The city's commitment to progress is evident in its modern infrastructure and public spaces. Ludwigshafen is not just about its industrial past; it's about moving forward, constantly reinventing itself and embracing the future with open arms.

In essence, Ludwigshafen's beauty lies not in picturesque postcard views, but in its gritty reality, dynamic culture, and the unyielding spirit of its people. It's a city that doesn't just exist; it perseveres, innovates, and thrives.

So, I try to make the best out of this and found a great place for a beer.

Back to the beer

Sapporo Beer, Japan's original brew, is a crisp symphony in a bottle, harmonizing tradition with modern zest. Crafted in the snowy realms of Sapporo, it embodies the cool, refreshing essence of Japan's north. Each sip is a journey - starting with a bold, clean sharpness, mellowing into a smooth, malty embrace.

The iconic silver can, a sleek testament to Japanese design, holds within it a legacy that dates back to 1876. Sapporo is not just a beer; it's a cultural icon, weaving the spirit of perseverance and innovation into its golden liquid. For beer aficionados and casual drinkers alike, Sapporo offers a taste of Japan's heart, served chilled and brimming with crisp, invigorating flavor.

This goes well with sushi

Sure 👍 this is a match. The beer is light and not to dominant in its taste. This gives room for the lovely taste of the sushi.

Kaoro sushi

What a nice place. I arrived late that evening as the German railway got me another hour extra. They are nowadays always late.

Always good a Sapporo with sushi...
I didn't know this town and two posts in a few days about it. To resume ugly but with StreetArt to embellish : Winter underpass graffiti by @street-ar

Looks like a delicious combo 🍺🍣

Mayne its just the background, but the color of the beer somehow looks really tasty to me! Sushi too!

And for the town, Never been and now probably never will unless I’m nearby and in need for sushi and beer! Cheers!

Work made me going there.
Just on the other side of River Rhine you have Mannheim which is lovely.

A few km away there is Heidelberg. That is always worth a visit

Heidelberg, I've heard is really pretty. Maybe next time I pass, I'll go check it out.

Talking about ugly German towns reminds me that one time where I had to go to Darmstadt for work. Didn't really have the appeal either. Good thing now is that I will leave for Freiburg tomorrow for my company's christmas party. A nicer place to visit and likely plenty of beer to be consumed :D

Afterhausen

I think I missed you there?

you probably can't get this, as it is a ofter used German / English word play in translation

Darm in German come to "After" while
Stadt in German is changed into "hausen" as many cities has this as a second part of their name

I see now. Googling Afterhausen got me ti some tiny place in Germany. Darm in dutch means colon. Not much prettier 😅

I love Jap food and especially so when it's paired with Jap beers! 😋

Yeah - great match.

Super!
Never seen this beer, I will have to search it up because I would love to try it!
