As you might already know I live in Barcelona and one of my favorite things about this city is the history it portrays. One of my favorite places is the Basilica of Santa Maria Del Mar.
At first you might not find it very special, but it’s the story that will change your perspective. It was the neighbors, the shipowners and the merchants who built the basilica and the bastaixos who brought rocks from Montjuïc to La Ribera which is about 1h walking.
Now every time I pass the basilica I can imagine our people in the 14th century building it.
If you are interested with this story there is a book called ‘Cathedral of the sea’ which is about the story of the basilica and there is also a series in Netflix inspired in the book which I really recommend if you are not really into reading.
