Walking through the Afferdense Duinen

The Afferdense Duinen

Last weekend we had a family weekend in the eastern part of The Netherlands. Our youngest daughter had an international dancing tournament just across the border in Germany, so we decided to stay on a campsite in the area.
Apart from the tournament there was time enough to explore the area. I had brought my bicycle, but because of the rainy weather I couldn't go for a ride. That's why I decided to explore the beautiful Afferdense Duinen next to the campsite on foot. Between the showers I left the campsite and walked straight into the forest. The weather was far from perfect, but that actually made the landscape even more interesting an refreshing.

The trails were full of puddles after days of rain. The wet forest had a calm atmosphere and everything smelled fresh and earthy.

It was quite a dense forest with a lot of trees and a beautiful mossy forest floor.

After leaving the forest behind, I suddenly reached a more open area with wide views over the heathland. On top op a small hill I spotted an observation tower.

I climbed the observation tower to get a better view of the area.

It gave me a nice view over the area. You can see the dunes with heather in the front and the forest stretching out in the back.

After walking down I continued my walk over the open area.

A flock of sheep was peacefully grazing across the heath. In open heather areas like this nature reserve managers often use sheep to prevent trees from growing in this area. The sheep eat small plants, but not the heather.

I really enjoyed this walk through the Afferdense Duinen. Despite the wet conditions, this was a wonderful place for a walk. The combination of forestand the dunes made it very diverse.
And nature is so fresh after some rain showers...

Before supporting an account, it can be useful to take a closer look at its activity and behavior.
I recently built the Hive Account Health Dashboard to make that easier.

The dashboard gives quick insight into several account statistics that may help when deciding whether or not to support an account.
Feel free to test it yourself and let me know what you think.

What a nice view! I loved it, I wish one day I'll also travel to this beautiful place.

Nice pictures even a puddle in the path became attractive lol good job!
I hate going in parks when it is like that I can imagine myself getting lots of mud in my pants and my shoes. But at least probably it was a very good walk without the sun burning on top of you!

Good waterproof walking shoes are a must. Living in the Netherlands I'm used to conditions like this. And nature really needed some rain.
