Toolse Fortress

about a month ago I went on a short day trip with some friends. I had chosen some locations that I had not seen before and wanted to see them over. We went to 3 different locations and the first one was Toolse Fortress. It is located in Northern Estonia, near town of Kunda. It's right next to the sea coast.

Built-in 1471, its purpose was to protect a nearby port from sea raiders. Some sources are said that they started building this fortress in 1219 but it doesn't really have proof so 1471 is still an official year when it was built.

In 1558 during the Liivi war, the fortress was destroyed by the Russians but was reconstructed again about 50 years later. At the start of the 18th century, the fortress was destroyed again during the north war and this is how it remains today.

From the year 1930, this fortress had its first conservation works done and the works have been done ever since to prevent it from collapsing, it now belongs to the museum and you can visit it.
Inside you can see different boards that describe the room or area in this fortress what there once existed or what purpose every room had.

Oh this is really cool. I like old buildings like this. This one is so beautiful next to the sea.

Yeah, me too. Always interesting to think about what those buildings once looked like.

Nice place! I have to note it, and visit, when I finally come to Estonia.

Sure, its an interesting location to see

I am a great lover of historical places and historical monuments such as this fortress.
It is an amazing historical footprint preserved over the ages.
