Simplicity Rocks
As seen in my last post one can easily create stunning photographs even with the most simple subjects when put in the light in the right way. The texture of my dying fiddle leaf tree holds so many intricate features that one can explore in an image. When you rotate the subject during the exposure the mind wonders and tries to make sense of the small details, and where they were, and how they contributed to the end result.
Wie Ihr in meinem letzten Beitrag gesehen habt, kann man mit den einfachsten Motiven durch geschicktes Lichtspiel beeindruckende Fotos erstellen. Die Textur dieses welkenden Blattes meines Geigenfeigenbaums birgt so viele komplexe Details, die man in einem Bild erkunden kann. Wenn man das Motiv während der Belichtung dreht, schweift der Geist ab und versucht, die kleinen Details zu erfassen, wo sie waren und wie sie zum Endresultat beigetragen haben.
Looking around in my apartment I found these two bowls that are made of all these little triangles. I placed the leaf on it and then I was playing with the rotation and how best to apply the light to get a dramatic result. Well, it was not that easy. But I get back to that later.
Ich hab da diese interessanten Schalen, die aus lauter kleinen Dreiecken bestehen. Ich legte das Blatt darauf und begann mit ein paar Rotationen und überlegte, wie ich das Licht am besten einsetzen könnte, damit es auch entsprechend dramatisch wird. Nicht sooo einfach. Aber darauf komme ich später zurück.
Setup & Settings
This time the setup was clearly flawed. I placed the subject on the flow with these cool bowls and the camera about 1.5m above on my tripod. The camera was set up on my usual rotation rig looking straight downwards onto the leaf.
The Camera was set to ISO 100 and my Sigma 105mm Macro was dialed in on F22. I wanted as much time as I could get. For the image below it meant a 75-second exposure time. This is the time it took me to go up and down 12 times to apply some light and turn the rig. Only an hour later I felt like I was at the gym for hours.
Who says Light Painting is just taking photos? This is f-ing hard labor!
Diesmal war das Setup nicht wirklich ideal. Ich platzierte das Blatt auf dem Boden in diesen coolen Schalen, und die Kamera befand sich direkt 1,5 m darüber auf meinem Stativ. Die Kamera war auf meiner üblichen Rotationstool direkt über dem Blatt.
Die Kamera war auf ISO 100 und mein Sigma 105mm Macro war auf F22 eingestellt. Das folgende Bild hatte so eine Belichtungszeit von 75 Sekunden. Das ware quasi 12 Kniebeuge, 12x auf- und ab, fürs einleuchten und Kamera weiter drehen. Erst viel später fühlte es sich an, als wäre ich stundenlang im Fitnessstudio gewesen. Wer sagt, Light Painting sei nur Fotos machen? Das ist verdammt harte Arbeit!

Ich denke mal das Ergebnis spricht für sich.
This one is interesting because it teaches something. Realize the rotation is not exactly in the center? You achieve that by setting the camera on the rig with a slide angle not looking straight ahead. Same setting but less complicated so this has only 56 seconds of exposure time.
Das hier ist interessant. Seht ihr, dass die Rotation nicht genau in der Mitte sitzt? Das erreicht man, indem man die Kamera auf der Vorrichtung mit einem seitlichen Winkel einstellt und eben nicht direkt geradeaus schaut. Gleiche Einstellung, aber weniger kompliziert, so gabs ne Belichtungszeit von 56 Sekunden.
Centered again and the rotation sits in the center again. What I love here is that the natural structures and the more organic vines next to the triangular shapes of the bowls give so much to explore in this image.
It comes less flashy but then has a lot going for it.
Wieder zentriert, und die Rotation befindet sich wieder in der Mitte. Was mir hier gefällt, ist die Interaktion der natürlichen Strukturen mit den organischeren Adern des Blattes im Gegensatz zu den klaren Dreiecken der Schalen. In diesem Bild gibt es so viel zu erkunden. Es wirkt weniger auffällig, hat aber dann doch einiges zu bieten.

Camera Rotation is what?
As I have shared with you in many of my posts about Camera Rotation. Yes, it is just what the name suggests. The camera is being rotated during the exposure, sometimes in steps sometimes in a continuous motion while doing so I also light up the scene.

Wie in einigen meiner Posts beschrieben ist Kamera Rotations Fotografie genau was der Name schon meint. Die Kamera wird einfach während der Belichtung gedreht und dabei wird das Subjekt ausgeleuchtet.

Gibt schon recht oft Momente wo Kopf leer ist und wenig Motivation. Aber der Sonntag ist hier so eine kleine Institution durch dich hier geworden. So bin ich immer mal motiviert was zu machen. Muss ich dir wirklich danken.
Oh, jetzt machst du mich verlegen. Eigentlich hat mich @lichtkunstfoto motiviert, hierher zu kommen. Also ist er an allem Schuld! 🤣 Ich bin wirklich glücklich, ein Teil von dieser tollen Gemeinschaft zu sein. Die ist es, die mich motiviert. Ich hoffe, dass uns dies noch sehr lange erhalten bleibt.
Ausserdem sollten wir dringend mal wieder eine gemeinsame Aktion starten!
Vielleicht schaffe ich es ja bald, die Kamera zu entstauben, die Akkus zu laden und endlich wieder Bilder zu machen. Die Veröffentlichung des Buches har mir in letzter Zeit viel Zeit und Nerven geraubt.
Oh ja! Man sollte Prioritäten setzen. Auf dein Buch bin ich natürlich ebenso gespannt. 👍
