Algae up close

Shot with Fuji X-T5, 80mm macro lens

At the mangroves area, there were a lot of our green friend just hanging around. They were so thick and so vividly green.

At the mangroves area, a lot of the algae were like cobwebs on a haunted mansion. They were covering a lot of the area. Almost like a fabric even.

This pic reminds me of Avatar 2's Metkayina village. Maybe they have drawn inspiration from algae. :D

Apparently, algae are not considered as true plants but they produce most of the oxygen on earth. Although I'm not sure what type of algae in this pic exactly is since it is a broad term.

The ocean produces around 70% of the earth's oxygen. That's crazy... but then again earth is mostly ocean so we shouldn't be surprised. :D

Now we understand why NASA is constantly looking for water in another planets to look for life.

I love how the water gives a nice shine to the photograph. :D

This is how they are being washed up on this island. I guess it gets that deep on high tide. :o

DSCF8493.jpg

They're so interesting up close. I thought they are very soft and like slimey but apparently they look like cloth fibers up close.

That's my hair after not washing it for 1 week.

The closest I can get.

Algae may be annoying for us beach-goers but learning how important they are for all of us, now I feel less-annoyed with them haha. We should be thankful of their hardwork despite them only being composed of one cell... yet us humans with multiple brain cells can't even comprehend what 'push' and 'pull' means. :P

Hooray for our autotroph fren.

It is almost like a cocoon. I have always loved the greens that Fuji cameras produce. I love this green, but not necessarily the subject matter. Algae is blooming (a toxic variety) and killing so much sealife in my corner of the world.

The government has a plan to treat it with oysters / clams, because they'll feed off it, but this up close detail shows that it is a life unto itself.

So much we don't understand about our planet. So much more I don't understand :)

I have the images edited - Fuji's Classic Chrome simulation and tweaked the green quite a bit to bring it back close to how it looks in person. But yeah in general I really like Fuji's colors as well. And just the overall 'feeling' the camera captures I don't even know how haha.

Anything that is too much is not good.. I've read in one of the algae facts as well that about 250 million years ago, earth had a massive extinction and algae bloom almost prevented life to recover. Crazy how fast they grow despite the environment lol so I hope the clams will be able to control them.

They have their unique colour science! :)

Incredible research in the link you provided, but I am nowhere near scientific enough (or silly enough to pretend to be) to understand the level of detail - looking for the post-death biomarkers in the limestone offers an incredible insight.

Everything leaves its mark, we just have to look closely to find it.

A local guy has written about the algae bloom in pretty plain language. Helps to understand what is going on.

Looks like one of my bad hayfever days when I was a kid :D

The color too? lol

Yeah - It was that glow in the dark green that reminded me of it.

Wow, the detail is really amazing. It looks almost alien. Have you seen that movie Annihilation with Natalie Portman, there is a weird alien algae everywhere, and this reminds me of that.

No I haven't yet. We are currently watching the Alien movies so that's about right time for us to watch another sci fi. :D We should check it out, it looks really interesting thank you for the suggestion!

That's great, I love the old Alien movies, especially the first two. Annihilation is an interesting one, I'm not sure you'll look at the algae the same way after watching it haha

Wowwww, how great Macro Shots/or Close Up, whatever

Thank you!

Woah this is actually so cool 😮 ngl I always thought algae were just slimy and gross. Imagine they’re out here making oxygen for us while we complain about them on the beach respect to our green homies fr.

Weird enough, they are slimy to touch but not in a way that there will be slimes all over... just the feeling. Once they are out of the water they are like nylons. :D

Wow, these macro shots are incredible!
Thank you for sharing
