My doggo is a better model than most humans out there

Taken on Fuji X-T4 50mm f/1, 1/8000s

It's time for some dogs pics again!

I wanted to try out my Fujinon 50mm f/1 [lens] outside in the daylight but since the lens is pretty heavy (yes, 845g for a 50mm) I was a bit hesitant to bring it outside while bringing my dog with me. Since I don't have any human models yet, I just said fuck it lol and took my doggo and my camera in a bag during a walk.

Weird face >:(

I usually look around during our walks so I'll have some ideas on where to take photos next haha and I found this plant with some yellow flowers in a big grass area so I made him sit and stay there.

His face was like "dunno what the fuck you doin lettin me lay down in this stupid grass when are you gonna be finished takin stupid ass pics???"

"Just kiddin tho"

The lens actually was fast with autofocus which was really nice. But I had some trouble with AF because of course, I wasn't able to set my camera's AF properly hahah. Fuji has a fuckton of AF settings that I have yet to understand but previously I was able to figure out for portraits - which was face and eye detection. But... since my model is not a human, the camera actually doesn't detect dog faces lol. So even tho I was confident with the face tracking, I forgot about it as I was shooting the dog so it took me quite some time to focus it properly.

I also wasn't able to manually focus it through the lens and I assume it's because of my camera's settings as well so I had to figure it out the hard way.

But the struggle gave me some interesting shots tho. I mean... just look at that!

The aperture is already at f/1 and it is still pretty sharp! My other lens 23mm at f/2 already gives me out some ugly blurriness at the edges of the subject but this one... at f/1 is just incredibly sharp. :o

Since my aperture is f/1, I had to turn the shutter speed to 1/8000 s and thankfully I didn't have to turn it up even more cos I didn't bring the lens cap and at the same time I had to change the camera setting again for it to work which I'm not that much familiar with yet lol.

This was taken at 6am which was sunrise. I really love how it blurs out the background and the foreground. It made the location look magical when in fact it looked like shit hahah and there was a few garbage nearby. :p

Another silly face!

They say golden retrievers detect scents through air... I wonder what he detected here. Some good drugs? He looks like a pig tho hahah.

The thing about photographing pets (especially dogs with snouts) is that the camera tends to focus on the nose rather than the face lol. Of course this depends on your settings, but if your AF settings is to focus on the closest thing to the camera, it will focus the snout if the dog is front-facing. That's something I didn't realize early on and I found it easier to take photos of them in a side-view until I can familiarize myself with the AF settings of this camera.

On the left was his normal watching face. On the right was when he sees something interesting lol. When you see his face like that, prepare yourself cos this dog will chase whatever it is that he saw...

Ok that's it for some doggo photoshoot for now. I'm sure you're tired of his face at this point. XD

Sort:

At f/1 and stilll pretty sharp, I think that's really astonishing. The camera is quite compact and capable even at the unlikliest conditions. Autofocus can be very dicey especially when its not a human subject, then manually setting it might not exactly still give you what you want.
However, I will compliment the blur on this shoot. The 11th picture is astonishing, look at those colors. The dog was actually calm and didn't disrupt the shoot.

Yeah, this is the best lens that I've gotten so far. Really really good. The thing with manual AF is also there are times that you won't be able to set it properly in moments like looking at the viewfinder is impossible or looking at the screen will be difficult so yeah.

I told him the shoot is for Hive so he should look his best. 😂

Hahah issues with autofocus can be sometimes frustrating, this shoot came out really good. Did you do some aftershoot editing?
Good dog, hahah, hopefully more shoots in the future. Though im itching to see more of your iphone 13 pro max shoots

Yes I did some editing but not much since I want to show Fuji's nice contrast. :D Haha I'm kinda running out of ideas on what to shoot both for my camera and iPhone 🤣

wowww! What a cute doggo! So cute!

Thank you! :D

The cutest subject ever!! Scrolling through your photos made me smile :)

Glad they did! :D

It's insanely difficult to get a perfect focus with an aperture as wide as f/1. These are wonderful.

👏

Yeeesss! Thank you! <3

Oh sure! Doggo can walk around naked with a leash around its neck, but when I do it I go to prison.

Why doesn't anyone call me cute when I do it? Double standards much? Pffftttt

Lol they have fur sir!! If you hairy you might get an exemption 🤣🤣

I will present this comment to the judge at my hearing.

That's a beautiful dog and very patient I might add :)
But the lens is simply magnificent. Amazing piece of equipment!
And the photographer is OK too :)

Thank you! It is indeed, I even feel like I need to up my skills fast so I can compensate and catch up with how powerful this lens is hahah.

Great shots! That camera is really working out quite well... and i'm glad you have the perfect model as a companion for all your shooting needs! hahaha

Yeah and good thing he's behaved so I don't look like an idiot in public hahahah

Dogs have a way of making us look that way in public... even when they are behaving! hahaha
Cheers

Your dog is so cute! I wished our dogs in the house behaved so I could take photos of them, too! But nah, I don't think that's gonna happen. they just love to go wild and bark all the time. 😂

Nice keep it up.
