"Broken" is more or less me waking up any day of the week in a lousy mood ( without any reason whatsoever) and going out to walk the streets to do catharsis and avoid one of my very frequent emotional outbursts.... And believe me, it usually works for me!...

This photographic work " happens " in my village's streets. This is a place affected by a severe economic and social regression since about 25 years... In these photos made as a palliative measure for my "almost nice" bipolar disorder, you can appreciate the crudest side of life as it happens here... There is also a kind of "symbiosis" between me and all the decadence of a town with narrow streets that left behind its best times, to live these not so good times...

Obviously, I'm not the kind of crazy person (at least, not at the moment) who would go around photographing dead dogs, landfills, sewers or people in an ignominious situation... So I try to work my photos with a certain subtlety typical of the compassion that can be felt for the places and people that I feel part of myself... When I say that there is a kind of "symbiosis" between my town's streets, its drama and me as a photographer, I say it under the conviction that I could not take these photos in any other place than this one where I have lived since I was a child and where almost everyone has always known me... So, it's like saying "I'm part of these photos"...

These dozen photos are turned to a monochrome scheme because it seems to me that the colors can take away from the meaning that I needed to give to this today, and which I wanted to share with you. This today is not a "pure black and white", but rather it is about desaturated photographs and then combined with attenuated layers of yellow between 1 and 6% depending on the lighting characteristics of each photo.

ADDITIONAL TECHNICAL NOTE: Photographs captured with my Nikon D7000 DSLR camera in RAW format, then processed in Adobe Camera RAW for adjustments regarding light, sharpening, contrast and depth... The shots are then exported to JGP format on which minor modifications such as straightening and adding watermarks were carried out using PhotoScape 3.6.3.
