SOFT LIGHTS AT DAWN - Rural landscape photography from Montalbán Carabobo, Venezuela

I have continued taking advantage of the January sunrises in the valley... This time my morning walk was in the direction of an area of countryside dedicated to livestock and agriculture called: "La América"... This is in the northern direction of the village and was formerly the land of a large property with the same name. However, as time went by it was divided into smaller plots and the old road was paved...

Unlike the land to the south of the village as in my previous post, this valley is surrounded by much closer mountains and that makes the apparent horizon more complex and gives the feeling of being closer. Also the way the light penetrates the valley is different. So here the sunrises have a more subdued kind of luminosity, even the colours seem to be less warm and more diffused. This is a charming and very interesting kind of landscape to photograph...

The solitude of the road is occasionally interrupted by locals driving their cows from one place to another. In this season the grass begins to dry out and the animals have to be moved to feed in places where there is still green pasture. All this offers a very diverse universe of photo possibilities. Even something as simple as looking east or looking west makes me realise how complex and diverse photography is here. As I said, the light is a bit complex, a bit dim but exquisite, and provides very pleasing colours to the eye. Is best to go with a lens with a high light-absorbing capacity to capture all the scenes without too many hiccups with the camera settings. I did this photographic work with my fixed 50 mm lens and I think I got a result quite in line with what I expected. I also felt very comfortable taking the pictures without having to raise the sensor sensitivity too much.

Black & white versions

Today I have also edited these photographs in Black and White versions. This is something I can't help doing, as I find that rural landscapes also have an undeniable visual charm when seen in monochrome. The editing here is a bit different than for the colour versions and I have opted to start from the original RAW and desaturate the colours with Adobe Camera Raw and then manage the levels on the JPG photo. I have been delighted with the result in several of these photos, especially the one where the trees with the branches stripped of their leaves appear.

ADDITIONAL TECHNICAL NOTE: Photographs captured with my Nikon D7000 DSLR camera in RAW format, then processed in Adobe Camera RAW for adjustments regarding light, sharpening, contrast and depth... The shots are then exported to JGP format on which minor modifications such as straightening and adding watermarks were carried out using PhotoScape 3.6.3.
