Christmas Lights and Memories of Developing Photos in the Darkroom

I don't decorate the outside of my house with Christmas lights but I enjoy watching people's festive displays at night. The other day, when we went to the park in the evening, I observed Christmas lights glowing in the dark.

I took some photos from our car. Most of them turned out to be out of focus but they looked nice even though they were blurry. I adjusted the camera settings to the dark filter, creating a mysterious atmosphere. I used to take blurry photos, especially with an old camera. iPhones and digital cameras are convenient for taking photos but there's a nostalgic appeal to the old analog-style cameras.

I sometimes miss the process of using film and developing photos in a darkroom. The experience of not being able to see anything until the film was ready in the special development liquid was cool. Even after taking out the film and immersing it in the liquid, I could only use a small red-looking light. After hanging the photos, I could finally return to the sunlight.

This is my little driftwood Christmas tree in the house. It looks pretty in the dark at night.

クリスマスのイルミネーションと暗室での写真現像の思い出

私は家の外観をクリスマスのデコレーションで飾る習慣はありませんが、夜によその家のイルミネーションを眺めるのは好きです。先日、夕方に散歩に出かけた際、暗闇の中で光るクリスマスのイルミネーションを見かけました。

車の中からいくつか写真を撮りました。ほとんどがブレてしまいましたが、ブレた写真が結構好きです。フィルターを暗く設定して、神秘的な色合いを出しました。昔はカメラでわざとブレたような写真を撮るのが好きだった頃があります。iPhoneやデジタルカメラは便利でとても使いやすいですが、アナログ式のカメラはいい味を出してくれます。

時々、暗室で写真を現像したことを懐かしく思い出します。フィルムを完全に取り出して、一番初めの液体につけるまでは真っ暗な部屋の中で作業をしなければなりませんが、その作業が好きでした。液体につけた後も、完全に写真を干して最後の作業が終わるまでは赤い色のライトひとつで作業を続けなければなりません。全てが終わってやっと太陽の光を見ることができるのです。

これは我が家の流木クリスマスツリーです。暗くした部屋の中でキラキラ光るツリーは可愛らしいです。
