This plant, coming from the American continent, has been around the heads of Roman emperors, the kings of Eastern Europe and Asia. It has been so esteemed because it puts us in contact, through its positive heliotropism, with the way in which the human being must govern his life, with the way in which we must focus our existence if we want to enjoy a happy and fruitful day to day life.
The sunflower seems to me a very peculiar plant because it can symbolize many things. It is usually said that the sunflower is the symbol of the sun, but it can also represent love, admiration, happiness, vitality, positivism and energy. Some people attribute to the sunflower a spiritual symbolism, since its movement following the position of the sun represents a happy way of life and a constant search for light, enlightenment, love of the sun.
For some religions, the sunflower represents the one who permanently seeks God, the divine, wherever he is, wherever that search takes him (the sun symbolizes God). It is a beautiful image of the human being, deeply in love with his creator who, from wherever he is, doesn't stop admiring him and keeping him in mind throughout his day, and doesn't stop focusing his life towards him.
I firmly believe in the energy that sunflowers transmit to us, we must listen to them and imitate their vital nature, force ourselves to seek the sunlight to nourish and grow, both in beauty and strength, however, we must remember that your light is not found on the outside, as in a star in which we all spin; your true light is within you, so look for it, attend to it, and follow your instinct. It is good that, during the search for your inner light, we accept help; nature itself teaches us that if we don't have sunshine every day, we have each other. Sunflowers look for sunlight, that is clear, what many people don't know is that, on cloudy days, they look at each other looking for the energy in each other.
It must be taken into account that the sunflower, with time, loses its heliotropic capacity, its development is paralyzed and it ends up lacking mobility, remaining with its face turned forward, towards the last place where it perceived the sun.
The heliotrope seeks the sun, and the human being must seek that source and origin (which it doesn't matter whether we call God, Transcendence, or the Great Architect of the Universe) if he wants to have the power to quench his existential thirst, if he wants to develop as a human being, if he wants to keep himself lifted towards the sky, if he wants to remain joyful and happy, full of life and love, if he wants to be able to overcome every obstacle that crosses his path. We must be brave and dare to look face to face with the sun, seek it wherever it is and let ourselves be guided by its light and warmth, until we finally find it and satiate ourselves with its knowledge, its love, contemplation and mystical experience.
