I had already posted light paintings from the old paper mill. Here are a few impressions, because the old building is also worth seeing during the day. There is a lot to discover. It is an industrial monument with a completely preserved historical paper production line. Personally, I still know the tracing paper of the factory from my childhood and youth.

In 1838, the paper mill was operated with water power. In 1839, there were 90 employees, mostly women. Drawing, writing, silk papers and wallpaper were produced mainly for Berlin. The paper was transported directly from the site by barges, later also by horse-drawn carts. At that time, paper was mainly made from old rags, so working there was not without danger, as there was a high risk of disease contagion, similar to the rag picker's profession. From 1886 onward, the factory mainly produced high-fine watermark paper for government papers. The main drive was converted to steam power in 1880. After the Second World War, the factory was expropriated in 1953 and became a Volkseigener Betrieb (VEB).

In 1992, the mill had to close due to inefficiency and 140 employees were laid off. The paper mill was registered as a technical monument and an association took over the sponsorship in 2003. The association has set itself the task of preserving the technical monument and using the area primarily for artistic and craft purposes.

WHAT IS LIGHT PAINTING?

Light painting is a unique form of art. The darkness is illuminate by the artist with diverse light sources and light traces are paint into the picture with various light tools. Various techniques are use, such as camera rotation or other movements of the camera during the exposure. The creative possibilities are almost unlimited. All the pictures were taken during one single exposure. Apart from denoising, sharpening, cutting and possibly adjusting the white balance, the pictures are not processed on the computer.
