Ottoman architecture or Turkish architecture, is the architecture of the Ottoman Empire, which arose in Bursa and Edirne in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. It developed from the previous Seljuk architecture and was influenced by Persian architecture, and to the greatest extent it was influenced by Byzantine architecture, as well as the Islamic Mamluk traditions after the conquest of the Ottomans for nearly 500 years. Byzantine architectural works such as the Hagia Sophia were taken as models for many Ottoman mosques.

In general, Ottoman architecture has been described as a homogeneity of the architectural traditions of the Mediterranean and the Middle East.

The Ottomans perfected the technique of vast internal building spaces confined to massive yet seemingly weightless domes that achieved a perfect harmony between the interior and exterior spaces as well as the applied light and shadow. Islamic religious architecture, which until then included simple buildings with extensive ornamentation, was transformed by the Ottomans through a dynamic architectural vocabulary such as tombs and domes.
