St.Petersburg walks - 15 street photo

in Photography Lovers3 years ago (edited)

Greetings from St.Petersburg, Russia! No magnolias in bloom here. Actually, the snow and ice havent all melted yet - but the 1st snowdrops already appeared a few days ago. It was a sunny day and I chose to walk out my 16-35mm 2.8L lens today... thinking about some architecture shots - but it all came to the streetphotos again, hehe. There were no 'wow-shots' today (all of these shots I captured today in the evening), but I got a lot of fun hunting it down, and simply walking. I didnt visit this part of my city for years! Now with my new job located here, I hope this could become a weekly or maybe even daily habit :=)

Contra-light... no intresting special plot here, I just captured the frame fascinated by the magic lighting hour.

At the subway station.

// Nothing special about this shot: just pedestrians at the streets.

Some yards definitely have artists living in them! Here, any surface runs the risk of being blank paper - a catalyst for the creative process. One of the courtyards on Vsevolod Vishnevsky St., P.S.

Little valuable photo,--against the light! - but I couldn't resist the temptation to take a picture of this bizarre wall of ducts, it's like a tree gnawed by woodworms...

An iconic scene that says a lot to the residents of my town: the employees of a fish mini-shop hang a poster announcing that "smelt has come to us" - a favorite seasonal (spring) fish (by the way, this fish smells like cucumbers :) The store owner (pictured right) came up to me and strictly made sure that I was an amateur photographer and was taking photos for personal use only. . that I wasn't some dangerous oversight organization that would muddy the waters, complain and "claim for issues".

There's a sports facility sandwiched between the residential houses, apparently a remnant of the old days - a rarity and value today! Real estate here is very expensive, it's very difficult to compete with business centers and hotels... And the artists have turned this corner into a very pleasant and modern-looking place - it's nice to come in and just look, the eye relaxes! I first came across this place. Gatchina Street, P.S.

A garbage man (local janitor) riding a bicycle with paper collected for sale. What's special about this photo is that it was taken blindly, at a glance, with the camera "on its belly"-without aiming or composing. Alive as I don't know what. I love it!!!

The area of the city where I was walking today - "Petrograd Side" - developed and was built up most in the 1890s-1910s, that is the time of flowering of "Art Nouveau" style - so, as you can guess, the vast majority can boast features of this style. Since "Art Nouveau" is my favorite style, I always take great pleasure in wandering these streets and admiring the houses. But it's very difficult to photograph them... even with a drone, and I don't have a drone. The width of the streets, uneven lighting (or lack thereof), shadows standing at car doors, locked doors... so many reasons. I usually only manage to get a good picture of individual elements of the decorations, alas.

Such as the showcase of this shoe repair shop. It is designed without the use of modern advertising/printing technology. I really liked this advertisement, I'm sure that the shop is also good, where they cherish the traditions.

Oh! I detected my best shot for today :P the next five minutes I spent photographing this lovely shadow-adorned firewall. / О!

I love this color contrast so much. Nothing special, but the light and color, again.

It is in Russian so I don't understand it but photography is universal language, so I can say very nice for that part :)
I was never good at street photography. I am more of a nature hunter :)

Andy, I added translations to all Russian parts.
agree - it is all mostly deducable from the pictures.
basically you might be intrested to know, that I have a new job - it is a publishing house of children's books - and its located at the north of the city (now I am using Tube every day) - AND the location is a great part of the city, developed in 1890-1910, i.e. it s a compact area full of art nuovo architecture. I havent visited this part of city in years, hehe. and now I am walking here on daily basis. I think, tremendows amounts of non-presious streetphoto and yards / graffiti explorations will follow :P

Nice walk through the city🤗

The first photo is great ....@qwerrie 😊

If I decided to visit Russia, I would first visit St.Petersburg🤗

thank you, Suzana, I am touched and pleased. I hope it would be possible one day in the future. SPb is a great city for tourists (its named The Northern Venice for the reason). just mind you should carefully decide the season - better come here from May to June, July, definitely not during the rainy autumn on snowy wet winter!

🧐

You're welcome 🤗
Maybe one day .... To match everything and get to St. Petersburg 😊
Thank you for the information .... it will be useful to me one day..
Spring is the right time for me to travel ..🥰

i see you like street photography

abcolutely correct!
I like my city, streetphoto, blackandwhite, portrait, and macro. cheers!
