Last month my wife and I were lucky enough to welcome our daughter into the world. Despite the pandemic, the hospital stay was actually pretty decent. Our city had just completed a new children's hospital last year, and it's a really well-designed hospital. Because of its single-purpose as a children's hospital, we got to avoid most COVID exposure. We did technically have one person in the maternity ward who had COVID as well, but they were quarantined in their room and the doctors and nurses took great precautions to avoid any spread.
So, while it wasn't ideal having a baby in the middle of a global pandemic... it was about as great as we could hope! Everyone in the new maternity ward has a full room, so you get into the hospital, are put into your room and you're done. No moving around to different places, no fussing about.
When our first child was born, that was not the case. Rooms were shared with multiple people (unless like us, you paid a separate fee for a private room... IF you could get it. There were only like 3 private rooms available at any one time), and there was only one or two bathrooms for the women to use for showers... which meant you had to be given a specific time to go shower after the birth.
So, this time, with our newborn was a way smoother process and was far more enjoyable. The only downside was that we had her in a pandemic. I think if we weren't having to go through all the COVID precautions and all that, it would have been a pretty great time.
