Quill was acting a little rambunctious yesterday afternoon, so I decided to take him for a big walk after dinner. We went to nearby Prosser Reservoir, about a 5 minute drive from my house. It's not the most photogenic body of water around, but this year is different! Late snow storms and a decent amount of Spring rain mixed with low lake levels have made for the perfect "super bloom" conditions for the lupine wildflowers around Tahoe area.
The walk was more about getting Quill exercise, but it's hard for me to go on a hike without my camera. I'm glad I brought it! After about a 20 minute walk, we arrived at the lupine and the reservoir. The lupine are reaching the end of their lifecycle. Many flower petals have fallen off and many seed pods are showing. But there is still some areas with fresh looking flowers. I had about 15 minutes to do some shooting before the sun dropped below the mountain and the sun was no longer lighting up the lupine. It was a quick shoot, but I was happy with what I got, especially since I had no expectations for the evening.
The photos above and below were shot with a Canon 5DS R and a 24-105mm lens. Shutter speed priority mode, set at 1/200 of a second since these were handheld photos, no tripod. ISO 200, no flash or lens filters.
