And so that day finally came and went.
We had been waiting for it for so long, planning everything — renting the restaurant, decorations, food, desserts, the cake, formal clothes... and then it all passed so quickly, like a second.
It was the Holy Confirmation of my younger son, who has now become a man by receiving this great sacrament.
There were over 65 confirmands in the church, and the Mass, led by the Bishop of Šibenik, was truly beautiful.
Everyone looked amazing, and I know that every parent sees their child as the most beautiful, and so it was for me — mine was the most beautiful of all.
He looked like a young groom.
Of course, his sponsor (godfather), who had his hand on his right shoulder as they spoke the bishop’s words, looked wonderful too.
The Mass started at 11 AM and lasted until 1 PM — almost two hours.
After the Mass, we went home to freshen up and have a drink.
Then, at 2 PM, we had a reservation at the restaurant.
There were four courses, with something for everyone — from fish to meat...
We also had live music because there were two other families at the restaurant celebrating as well, but they were in a slightly separate area. The music was shared for all.
There were 25 of us.
As it happened, the next day was the 11th birthday of my goddaughter Ema — the sweet little daughter of the sponsor — so my wife and I decided to surprise them.
We ordered a cake with the number 11 for our little goddaughter and got balloons with her name on them.
She was overjoyed, as were the godfather and godmother. The godmother even shed a tear of happiness.
It was very special for them because they had come all the way from Zagreb — 330 kilometers away — and they weren’t expecting it.
The band sang “Happy Birthday, dear Ema,” while the godmother cried tears of joy.
That filled me with such happiness because they were happy too.
As is the custom nowadays, most people bring money to such events, so my son collected enough for something he had wanted for a long time — a new mobile phone — so he was thrilled too.
Around 7 PM, when everything had ended, we slowly started heading home, but the godparents came with us to our house.
After all, it was still a celebration, and a bit of alcohol had been enjoyed, so they didn’t head home right away.
They ended up staying two more days, resting and swimming in the sea, as it was already quite warm — 22°C — while the air temperature was 31°C.
And so another day passed — a day I can truly say we all ended with joy, full of euphoria and beautiful moments, and of course, memories for a lifetime.
🎉🎉🥳 Congratulations 🥳🎊🎊
