Squirrel Sunday with some Feathered Friends

pb063555_copy.jpg
The squirrels are out and about trying to get as fat as possible before winter hits.

pb063554_copy.jpg
I think someone gave him an almond, he better eat it fast before another squirrel sees him. They like to steal each other's food all the time.

pb063553_copy.jpg
This was the first shot I got of him. In the orange fall leaves he blends in pretty well but his loud chewing gave away his location.

pb063560_copy.jpg
He has a pretty good niche here for eating. Fortunately he was too busy enjoying the almond to allow me to get plenty of different angles.

pb073592_copy.jpg
Meanwhile at the lake even the vine leaves are starting to turn bright colors. I almost got a good chipmunk photo here but he ran off the rocks right as I clicked the photo. At least the leaves salvaged the image.

pb063546_copy.jpg
The lake was quite busy today. During fall lots of water birds gather here during their migration south. Most of these are just mallards but there are a few wood ducks in there as well.

pb073581_copy.jpg
The Canadian Geese are here year round even when the lake is frozen over. I wonder what they even eat in winter? They seem to survive well enough.

pb073571_copy.jpg
The sparrows were loaded up in these wild roses probably feasting on rose hips.

Its always nice when birds pose for you without being backlit by the sun. I wish all the rare birds would do this lol. Hopefully tomorrow there will be more migrating birds out. If not I can always rely on seeing sparrows posing for practice shooting.

That's all for now, thanks for looking :-)

Yes we have a bird wanna be supermodel in here lol. Quite a pretty shot!

Haha if only it was a rare warbler of some kind instead of a common house sparrow.

You got some of the most crystal clear shots in this post then i have seen in quite a while... and you know how many photos we see in this awesome community! Fantastic job! Keep up the great work.

The lighting was perfect, now I am facing a few months of gray days so my zoom lens will be very fuzzy. Perhaps I can lure the squirrels closer with treats and take the photos with my smart phone for winter to get clear shots.

So sweet squirrel 🥰

Fantastic photos and a sparrow is just posing waiting for you to take a picture of him🤭

He was very bold, there were a bunch of others inside the rose bush but he was the king posing out in the open.

They really are, because I know they are very timid ..

Wow! those are crystal clear and I love the colors! which camera are you using to take these shots?

maybe it is not the camera to blame, but the good lighting... some soft pre-magic hour lighting -- always works as a charm!

I use an ancient olympus evolt 510 with a zukio zoom lens with an extension ring. It really only takes good photos like this when it is nice and bright out. If its cloudy alot of grain is introduced into the photo. So whenever its a fully sunny day I try and go out with the zoom lens.

Oh wow! the result looks crisp! I recently just dived into photography and I've been learning. I got point and shoot camera though with fixed lens. I reckon it's adequate for a beginner like myself. I want to really learn how to capture images like yours 😁. Kinda hoping to have a sunny day soon.

I started out with a basic digital camera as well doing macro shots because of the fixed lens. Now my phone is better than that old camera. The next step would be some kind of dslr camera.

majestic! this could earn some CCC, if only you were using #creativecoin, you know. 😏

Aha thanks for reminding me of CCC usually I only use that tag for digital art or music.

oh. imo that s a fail =) the art of photography can be such a creative thing, do not deprive it the right to be entitled 'creative' )))))

Awesome pics!! So nice when birds are cooperative..

I wish I could get the skittish wood ducks to cooperate more often, they are so shy.

Awww my god, they are so cute. I have a friend who has rescued several and is a squirrel "humom" now 🐿️

They are very smart I bet they would like to solve some obstacle courses for treats. That's what I would do if I ever owned any squirrels. Some people around here build the obstacle courses in their back yards and film them trying to get the treats.

Lol, they are super clever. I may sound crazy but I rescued an injured mouse this Summer, healed him and relocated him in the wild at an abandoned village, for 3 months now I go there every two days with nuts and foods and helped him build shelter. It has grown and liiks a little haven city of burrows and feeders and water for birds and mice. I love ratties too. My friend has now several squirrels because she takes in babies fallen during storms. We underrate our animal companions many times. Pd. The last spring an the circuit looks a bit dangerous for the squirrels even if they know how to land lol but yes, of course they outsmarted him.

Mice are cute too just so they don't carry the plague lol. I have a pet hamster that is sort of like a mouse. Very tame and smart about heights and what not to chew.

Oh do not worry rats never carried the plague, and common rat and mouse are as safe as any other wildling, just worse press. I had a hamster calles Totonika Nova, she even has her own song on spotify. I miss her. After my hamster 🐹 I had ratties and what can I say, clever as a dog.

This was Totonika

Aww what a cutie and an interesting color pattern too.

Great photos!
I don’t even know which photo is more beautiful, it’s difficult to choose! :-)

A sunny fall day produces good photos. Though just today it started snowing already so it will be gray days for the next few months...

Great photos, I fell in love with a squirrel🤗🤩

They are terribly cute especially when they are crunched up in a ball eating like that.

Thanks :-) the squirrel are quite the thieves for food.

Never let a nice sunny day go to waste for the zoom lens.

Its really an old model I'm not sure they are sold new anywhere but there are plenty on used sites like ebay. I wonder what the newer version of this might be. https://www.ebay.com/b/Olympus-EVOLT-E-510-Digital-Cameras/31388/bn_108321866
