Finally, after more than 1,500 km traveled through the Yucatan Peninsula, we have arrived in Cancun.
We are only going to spend one day here to sample the Caribbean beaches of Cancun and tomorrow at 7:00 in the morning we will be ready to check in to catch the plane to Miami and then catch our final plane to Barcelona.
It has been a spectacular trip much better than expected. We really liked all the flora and fauna of the peninsula and the cities of Valladolid and Mérida are fantastic. I have to say that I was a bit disappointed with the Mayan archaeological ruins.
I find they are a bit run down and all the business around them is over the top.
Other than that everything has been fantastic, excellent food, magnificent people and spectacular paradisiacal places where you can enjoy life in an authentic way. It is possible that we will return to Yucatan again in the future, but as I have said in several previous Posts, tourist areas should be avoided at all costs. They are centers of pure materialism, the real Yucatan is found in the interior and in the south, near Belize.
Hey @toofasteddie I was living in the quiet area of Playa Del Carmen this year, so know the area pretty well now. Did you visit Coba or Ek Balam ruins on your trip?
Also I love Isla Mujeres during the week on the quieter days.
We loved Valladolid also.
We are now in La Cruz on the pacific coast, stunning nature everywhere, a very different climate here. But we lived Spain before so appreciate the mountains very much. Thanks for you share.
Yes, we visited Cobá also and other places but we missed some others. We run out of time, unfortunately

Not sure if you went till San Cristobal, or Cañon de Sumidero ? Really great places too!
You've been visiting Tikal in Belize? This was on my wish list, but I dind't go because it would take too much time and I had to leave the car behind on the street for a couple of days in Palenque.
Palenque by the way is an example of "touristic but not over the top", so unlike Chitzen Itza. Have a safe trip back to Spain!

Skip Cancun, go to “Laguna Bacalar”, just 4h driving from there
