Bad Dudes Vs. DragonNinja released by Data East in 1988.Bad Dudes vs. DragonNinja ,also known simply as Bad Dudes (on the U.S. NES ) or DragonNinja (in Japan and Europe),is a side-scrolling brawler game developed and released by Data East for arcades in 1988. It has also been ported to many home computer systems and game consoles.In Bad Dudes, players take on the role of the titular duo, whose task is to rescue " President Ronnie " from ninja kidnappers . The game was a commercial success, becoming one of the five most profitable arcade games in America in 1988 . The arcade version received generally positive reviews from critics, while home conversions received generally positive or mixed critical reception. It has since become widely known for its general premise and cinematic interlude. The game begins in Washington, D.C., where President Ronnie (modeled after American President Ronald Reagan ) has been abducted by the evil Ninja Dragon. The introduction to the game begins with the following introduction: "With ninja-related crimes rampant these days, the Whitehouse is no exception." A Secret Service agent talks to the titular "Bad Dudes," two street brawlers named Blade and Striker: "President Ronnie was kidnapped by a ninja. Are you bad enough to save Ronnie?" The Bad Dudes chase the Dragon Ninja through the streets of New York , get into a moving big truck, through a large storm sewer, through a forest, into a freight train on the old Southern Pacific(where the title character from another Data East arcade game, Chelnov , can be transported in a frozen container in the arcade version), through a cave and into an underground factory to rescue President Ronnie. The ending of the Japanese and English versions of the game differ. In the English version, after the Bad Dudes defeat the Dragon Ninja, they celebrate by eating burgers with President Ronnie. At the very end, President Ronnie holds a burger, standing between the Bad Dudes. Behind them are many bodyguards, with the White House in the background. In the Japanese version, President Ronnie hands the Bad Dudes their statue as a reward. The Bad Dudes lean against a fence on the sidewalk next to their statue. Unlike the international version's ending, the Japanese version's ending shows a list of almost all the enemies in the game along with their names (except for an unnamed green ninja boss that multiplies,named Kamui in Japanese magazines at the time),while faces appear next to the names of the game's staff. The background music played in the endings of the two versions is also quite different.

This was one brawler I could not get into. I prefer my brawling titles to be more like Final Fight, with multiple planes of combat/evasion available. I know I am in the minority on this one. 😂
