Pandanus & Antimacassar

I am in a red zone. Numbers of positive Covid cases are up, more than the first wave, and so we have an Enhanced Movement Control Order in place, which does not permit is to move out of our district. So with limited movement, there are only so many things to be done.

One, we had to get my brother's house leak issue sorted. He doesn't live in the country, and so I am keeping an eye on it. It was supposed to have been ready for Airbnb but that's been put on hold for obvious reasons. To top it, we discovered some white liquid leaking out of the sockets. A scene for a horror movie for sure.

We suspect it is because their "pocket gardens" (a word discovered today) don't have any water outlets. Every 3rd floor has a kind of communal balcony with a small garden. So, The Hubs thinks with the heavy rains, water has collected and now with nowhere to go found a way. You'll see in the video, what it looks like. But they tell us, nothing can be done till after the restriction movement is lifted. Hope it doesn't get worse...

With our tomatoes ready to be eaten, we are encouraged to expand on our Balcony Garden. So we got ourselves Screwpine and Lime (for the leaves), as well as soil, fertilizer and the like. Gardening, after all, is something many picked up with the pandemic.

Another word I discovered is "Antimacassar". At first I thought it was a tool or utensil haha. I. mean, really... does it not sound like a "sharp" word? Of course, that's far from it. I got it from The Monkey's Paw by W.W. Jacobs that I just read. And the question begging to be answered is, why do people still do things they are warned against... is it disbelief or thinking it would be different for them... perhaps a little of both eh...

Thank you for dropping in ;D

What in the world is Screwpine?

We call it Pandan leaves, and thanks to your question, I now know it also has some health benefits

Asians - in particular Malaysian, Indonesian and Thai cooking, it is used to flavour and fragrance and for desserts colour too.
You can crush it lightly, knot it up and drop it into rice/beans as boiled. Can wrap chicken, fish and then fry/grill. You can blend it and use the juice.

Oh, it is the English traders who named it Screwpine when they came over to these parts back then... Pandan Leaves sounds nicer eh
